88 C4 back on the road.

How’s the tires on that corvette holding up?

I did some research about 25 yrs ago when I drove rte 66 from Chicago to Springfield mo. IIRC there were still sections in Illinois that had signs indicating 1912 when it was in service. most of those were vacated empty stretches that were brick paved. After reading about things along the way and how the route was replaced by interstate hi-way, it was cool to go through the little towns and look for the remnants of roadside diners and gas stations, and other tourist attractions.
Enjoy the trip!

He has been cleaning his car all day. He replaced every interior screw with the correct ones form the kit he bought last year. Was checking to clean the cowl drains. DS is completely plugged. Pulled the DS grill to get to the center one. Plugged. Was removing a screw for the access panel on the PS. I said "be careful backing that screw out, that it might nick the windshield" and POP, CRACK. Now he gets a new windshield.

That will be an expensive lesson.

The windshield got expensive really fast. Nobody will touch these once they research what it takes.

We found a privateer who would work with us. We pulled the header foam and found 5 rusty philip head screws. One came out by hand. These hold the header trim and the foam retainer trim. They are over some slim foam tape. I ground the heads off with a death wheel in a dye grinder. I did not damage any trim. With the way my hands shake, that was an accomplishment. The screws had enough meat on them to grab with a small vice grip. Cleaned the surface rust and POR15 went across the top of the header.

The side trim screws came out easier. 2 pieces each side also. Junior cleaned everything well and we had everything prepped.
Windshield guy showed up on time and was impressed. Swapped the windshield. Dropped the quoted price by $200. When we told him what it took to get it apart, he said he would have walked away.

We ended up at Home Depot buying tape on foam and wafer head screws to replace all of them. Walmart had the bicycle tubes for the separater seals. He spent 6 hours putting back together. Looks great.

High side AC stem had a very slow leak. He found replacements down town and headed for them. Parts store jump started his car. Voltage was going down. Alternator took a dump. New ACDelco unit. I put it on in January. I ran down and drug the car home on the trailer. Replacement was ordered and picked up. Works now. At least it did not happen on our trip next week.

The new stems, 4 different sizes, are not correct.

I just put 6 different freeze plugs in my truck in an attempt to get one to seal. Finally found some that were made in America measured in inches. All the others I had to convert from mm, apparently in China close enuff is good enuff

2 hours of rain. Only 10 miles of freeway so far. Tennessee and Kentucky back roads.
The drag races we were going to watch tonight are rained out.

How are his headlights? The backroads in every part of TN and KY I've been in need LOTS of illumination. Watch out for critters and meth heads.
