'89 Blazer LS swapped DD/Adventure Rig

The pedal installation only sucks because it is under the dash. The punchouts are there.

Nice. What years do I need to be looking for to find a hydraulic assembly? Or are the linkage/hydraulic pedals the same?

No, you want the hydraulic pedals preferably. 1985-1987(1991).

Martin

No, I am saying if you are just getting the pedals, you don't need to specifically search out a 4x4.

Martin

I understand, that should broaden my search. Still going to be next to impossible to find in these parts..

There was a total of three squarebody trucks last junkyard trip I took, all auto 2wd.

Do you know if I'll need the high hump trans tunnel with a nv3500? I know its a certainty for the nv4500.

You already have the correct tunnel. All 4x4 tunnels are the same.

Between going back to the smaller wheels, and adding a man's transmission, I concur.

I'm liking this build more and more :waytogo:
Dude I'm so ready to have a reliable transmission, my 4l60e friggin rocked at first, but I just don't think its gonna be up to snuff.

I don't want to throw $2k at a rebuild that "should" hold up and have to replace it in 8 months.

Lol this is hilarious. yes, you were right from the beginning about the wheels. Now I just gotta sell the Mfin 20s and get half my money back...

I need some guidance doods

I am afraid an nv3500 is not going to hold up behind the 5.3 and 35" tires. Should I still be considering a 99+ LS based nv3500?

I am also concerned that if I find a deal on a nv4500 I will not be happy with the gear split. (From what I've read).

The blazer spends 95% of the time on the pavement so I think the nv3500 will be more pleasurable to drive, just concerned it won't take much abuse.

What do y'all think?

I had one of the earliest and weakest versions of that tranny in an 88 GMC C1500 short fleet with the TBI 350. Being younger, I beat the ever loving crap out of that truck for the 6 years I owned it. Went through a few sets of rear tires...

The only issue it had was a hardened roll pin breaking in the shift tower area.

After 11 years of improving it, I'd guess the 99+ version is more than burly enough to live behind a 5.3 in a Blazer.

Great, this is what I was hoping. Thanks for the input!

I think I can land one for ~$600, i have no clue how I'm gonna find pedals though...

Start with a parts wanted ad here. Always guys parting trucks and I've seen the hydro pedals come up more than a few times...

Almost forgot, Russel ran an NV3500 in his old K5 wheeling rig behind a turbo'd 6.2, and on 37's. I don't think he ever killed the tranny.
