'89 Blazer LS swapped DD/Adventure Rig

Little update:

Just ordered up my flange style slip yoke for my rear CV driveshaft. Dennys finally got them back in stock and I jumped on it. I have a weird cv shaft (slip yoke made into joint) that I am converting to a flange style, because you can no longer find the type of slip yoke that I would need. Doing this will get me better spline engagement with the output shaft and eliminate my slight vibration at highway speeds, and when I get into the skinny pedal [emoji14] .

Also ordered a set of flush mount fleabay led pods for the front bumper, we'll see how they stack up against Rigid Industries.

Can't believe I missed your thread...great stuff! I'm also going to have to do some type of CV driveline for slight vibration, too. Hope yours works out to be vibration free!

I appreciate it! VSS housing cleaned up great btw, thanks again.

This is what happens when you're a dumba$$ and use the bell housing bolts to pull the transmission up to the engine.

Y'all remember when I was having issues getting the converter to seat in my swap thread? Well 8 months and 9k miles later the pump finally took a ****. I imagine i cracked the rotor when I first installed it but it took a while to fail completely.

I was merging into traffic and had to make it down shift to 2nd and it caught for a split second and then it tached up with no movement....

The pump housing is trashed for sure but I didn't fine a single piece of debris in the pan or case. The fluid looked/smelled brand new, even shined a flashlight thru it to look for sparkles, nothing at all.

So I'm gonna order a rebuilt pump and slap 'er in.

Who knows where the fluid goes after it leaves the pump so I know where to look for debris? Does the torque converter get its fluid directly from the pump?

This ought to be fun

FTI 2800 stall converter

After reading I found that when a pump fails the shrapnel is limited to the pump and the torque converter. I figger if i gotta replace the 'verter I might as well upgrade. [emoji1]

Just test drove the blazer after a new front pump, converter, and cooler flush. Everything seems to be working great.

The dang thing took 13 qts of trans fluid! That gets spensive when its DEX IV @5.99 a quart....

I will say, the stall converter is going to
take some getting used to. Though when it grabs, ya better hold on!

This converter Fn rocks! I wasn't sure at first but this thing has really impressed me. It gives me the power back that I lose when the A.C. is on, which is considerable. Feels like I'm driving a stockcar lmao

Alright so on a different note :

I picked up a mint Warn Classic bumper for a smokin' deal on CL. I have been in the market for one for a while but hadn't found one it decent shape. I plan on reinforcing the outer "wings" as they seem to be a bit on the thin side.

The best part is the dude on CL decided he didn't want to unbolt the winch from the bumper so he said "ehh I guess I'll let it go too". Sweet! The guy was super cool and loved my blazer, spent every bit of an hour talking.

Come to find out the winch is a Warn 5687 otherwise known as a Bellview, the predecessor to the 8274. The last year they were manufactured was 1973.. I tested it tonight and the damn thing works! Tore it open and the dummy who had it last had the gear box packed full of wheel bearing grease instead of gear oil... what a mess. I plan. on cleaning it up nice and replacing the 5/16" wire rope with 3/8".

I decided I'd rather have my blazer geared towards getting me to wherever I wish to camp, and be reasonably well equipped to handle whatever occurs. The biggest goal here is functionality. I am planning on building a subtle rear bumper with swing away spare carrier as well. I want to keep a modest look with the blazer, after all it is my DD and I'll be looking for a job in my career field in the next year or so.

I'll get some pics up soon.[emoji6]

Here's a some pics of the prehistoric winch's guts

If I didn't think the thing was so cool because of its age I wouldn't even bother with it, but hell it works!

Here you can see to PO welded the fairlead to the bumper.... who does that?!

I've got some 3/16" plate that I am going to replace the "decking" of the bumper with and add some angled pieces to add to the profile of the bumper.

This is what I'm after (besides the fog lights). Props to whoever this rig belongs to, this is a modified warn.

Gonna finish cleaning it up and hit it with some rustoleum hammered gray, should look pretty good!

This God forsaken 4l60e has finally **** the bed. A month of driving it after the new pump it started acting up yesterday. It has lost its everloving mind. Under light throttle you can forget it holding 3rd or 4th consistently, its in and out of gear banging and slipping. The harder you drive it the better it shifts, shifts perfectly under hard throttle. It was absolutely perfect when I first got it back together, I reckon maybe a piece of trash got dislodged and found its was to somewhere it shouldn't be..... idk

I am so friggin done with 4l60e transmissions. The blazer is probably going to get a nv4500 if I can afford it or a newer nv3500. A rebuilt 4l80e plus controller is way out of my price range so thats out of the question.

The way I see it, a manual will be borderline indestructible (especially nv4500) and it will be more fun to drive. Plus better mpg. Granted I will miss quick shifts and thought-free driving, but hell I need a trans that I don't have to replace every 20k miles!

So as of now I'm on the hunt for a sub $1000 nv4500 or 99+ nv3500. As well as a hydraulic pedal assembly, that should be fun to locate....

The pedal installation only sucks because it is under the dash. The punchouts are there.
