'89 Blazer LS swapped DD/Adventure Rig

Side note :

I put this together while the blazer has been down. I think it turned out pretty good

Very nice! I'd like to do that with my locker switch. How did you secure it to the ashtray? If necessary, can it still be removed and ashtray replaced to keep the stock setup? I just hate hacking into anymore dash sheetmetal...

It did have to be trimmed to get the switch plate to lay flat on the backside. I used epoxy to hold it in, and it is surprisingly stout. There's just not enough material there the hold a rivet etc.

I plan on getting an entire replacement assembly out of the junkyard in case I ever want to go back factory.

That's a good idea (replacement)! I'll keep my eyes open for a good one next time I go out.

With that said....dang, I can't believe what OEM dashes are going for on eBay! Like $1500!! I paid $450 and I thought THAT was a lot! Maybe I should of bought a few of them at the time...wow! Maybe the ashtray will be worth $500 in 8 years too!

Its ridiculous! It makes it impossible to put a nice dash in a rig like mine. Its not show quality that would demand a $1500 dash, but it's also not a beater.

Well that was easy!

Now I'm going back out to hack up my pristine transmission tunnel... yay

Transfer case is back in!

I removed the factory tcase shifter and it looks like I will be able to move it back a couple inches (thanks Martin), enough to make the nv3500 shifter and the tcase shifter get along.

All I have left to do is :
Cut hole in trans tunnel
Install shifter/boot
Bleed clutch
Install y pipe
Install driveshafts

Get pcm tuned (later)

I hope the blazer will be as peppy as I imagine. And I hope the nv3500 doesn't puke its guts on the first drive!

In yalls experience, what's the proper clutch break in procedure? Normal driving for 500 miles?

Ya for clutch break in don't ride it, dump it, or do redlune shifts for the first 500 miles.

Who knows how the tcase shifter ring that sits under the trans tunnel comes off? I can't get the sum batch off. Is it tack welded?

Its the ring that reinforces/captures the bolts that come thru the shifter assembly and trans tunnel.

I missed reading this thread till today.

I like it! :thumb: Should be very cool with the manual!

If you could use a bezel like the one Martin had a pic of for the shifters I have one...maybe Martin does too. :dunno:

Or is that still not going to work for you? Do you have to move the t case controls forward or back to make it work?

Thanks!

The np833 bezel will not work unfortunately.. I plan on moving the factory shifter assembly back a couple inches to provide clearance.
