'89 Blazer LS swapped DD/Adventure Rig

I had already hacked my subframe up with the diy4x mounts because the swap bracket's they use put the motor in the wrong location. they don't have the 1" setback that we need to keep the factory trans crossmember and driveline angles.
I removed the diy4x mounts and adapter plate and moved my engine back the 1" with the front of the engine on the hoist all is well just waiting for my ddingo brackets to come in and hoping to hit the hardware store in search of some 1/2" spacers.
where did you get your 1/2" spacers from? what did you do about the size different in bolts? oe is 1/2" bolt and diy mounts use a 9/16" bolt hole?
wish I would have stumbled on this thread sooner. you would have saved me a lot of trial and error.

I did have to use different bushings, it was an energy suspension part. I'll look for the number.

I used some shock bushing sleeves (cut in half) that I had laying around for a spacer.

So back to my driveshaft.

What could be causing my slight vibe at ~75 and above? I was told I need to remove the crossmember spacers once I have the CV shaft installed. As of now, the pinion is pointed straight at the tcase.

Any ideas?

"Once you have the CV shaft installed"?

So, if I am reading this right you do not currently have a CV shaft installed, but the pinion is pointed at the t-case output? There's your vibes right there...and yes get rid of the T-case spacers once you install the CV shaft.

I phrased that wrong. Yes, the CV shaft IS installed now and there are currently vibes around 75mph. I'll pull the spacers and see what happens.

Update: I got my new Borla muffler installed today and the thing is freakin' sweet.

No more raspy, loud ass flowmaster and now a more refined, mellow tone. It is still loud when you want it to be though. The best thing about it is, NO DRONE whatsoever.

I'll get ya'll a video if I can figure it out...

I also got my remote start working again since the swap, just in time for some cool-er weather.
Evidently I lost power to the main power input to the control box at some point when I was wiring the 5.3. I am going to track down the loose end and see what I can do. As of now i have it plugged into a different aux port on the interior fuse panel. It made me feel good to have wired the 5.3 ignition circuits in a way that I could retain the previously installed system!

How do you use the remote start with a 5 speed?

Martin

Lol don't leave it in gear!! I don't use it during the day, running errands and whatnot. Too much risk of getting in a hurry and leaving it in gear.

It really only gets used in the mornings.

But the keyless entry is super handy.

Aren't they wired so if it's in gear it won't start remotely?

Which Borla did you get? I installed the Flowmaster kit for blazer but the Series 60 muffler may be a touch too loud. Curious which one you got.

Unless it was a semi, I have never let a vehicle with a manual transmission sit parked without being in gear.

Martin

Unless I'm parked on a hill mine is in neutral, my parking brake is adjusted tight. Do you leave yours in gear just as a fail safe?

It is a Borla pro xs. Part number 40349, I LOVE it

Half of my junk doesn't even have a parking brake.

Even in vehicles with a functioning parking brake, I only use it if the engine is running.

I just swapped the tcase spacers around and here's what it looks like now 20151102_150340.jpg

I hope maybe with the pinion a few degrees below the tcase output my high speed vibe will go away.

On another note:

Balance beads in tires are a crock of shit!!
I started with 6.5oz in my 35s and then went up to 9.5oz, shook like a mfer over 55 regardless. I finally broke down and dynamic balanced them with nail on inside and outside. Its still not perfect because they took an absurd amount of weight.

Anyone have any advice? I think I may have them road force balanced next, once I get a set of rally wheels painted and ready to go. The 7" wide alloys are just too skinny for me.

Driveshaft looks about perfect now. Surprised on the balance beads...are the tires out of round?
