Thanks. The bed sides are still optional but it looks better with the sides off now.
I wish I could weld too. I was lucky enough to have a friend that welds take an interest in the project. He's a damn good welder too. He used to weld boats so I think he is just happy to keep his feet dry on this

Great thread. Anymore updates, I like where you are going with this. Looks like a build you can do on a modest budget, and lots of work and thought.

Added a gusset for the forward-most mounts and ground some welds smooth. That is about it. Been working on the rig getting used on the trails. It is getting integrated rock rails and a cage. It's a Jeep though, so, nothing too exciting. My buddy thinks it looks like something out of a Mad Max movie after the last beating it took.

Finally an update. Mostly, just trying to get the bed painted and finished. It took a lot of hours to get the bed this far. Mostly because of the amount of prep work and the number of coats. The back of the bed still needs paint because it was sitting on that part so the bottom of it was accessible to paint. It was fun but it was the kind of fun you only want to have once. Put some 40s on it but they look small for some reason. I think I am going to name this the turtle because it is taking so long to build and it will be camo green eventually.

Update. After 2+ years of slow progress it is ready for paint. Started doing some button up issues like finishing the brake lines (all new), and getting the steering wheel lined up, and the big one, getting it running. It turned over and seemed like it should run which was good. So, I got a few gallons of fuel to put in the new tank. Turned over but would not fire. Poured a little fuel in the TBI and it fired up alright. So, it was a fuel delivery issue anyways. Cracked the lines at the TBI and go very little pressure. The fuel filter was new so I checked the pressure there too. Still low pressure. Decided to get a new fuel pump even though it was fine when it was parked. And then, yeeaahh, it fired right up 
. Something about hearing it run after 2+ years of snail progress felt pretty good. So that is the update. Bringing it to the paint booth today. Using new GM doors, GM fenders, and a cowl induction hood. Thinking about painting it the H2 olive green.

Looks good. Glad to hear its running. I hate to see the blue and silver go though.

The color choice was between the green and the original blue. We went with the blue to keep it simple. No silver this time though.
It is at the paint shop now. Felt pretty cool to drive it. Still have a lot of little things to do but it has come a long way.

Thanks. It is also a long build but the finish line is at least visible now.

You and me both. Trying to find all the the little things to put it back together. The rear window seal was shot so, I just ordered one of those. There is a new tinted slider going in the back. Found the door locks but no keys. Found the side marker lights, battery tray/tie down, and grill parts so far. It's like a scavenger hunt really, after two (or is it three now) years.

Thanks. It is mostly back together. The windshield is in and the body panels are where they are supposed to be. The current issue at hand is whether to use the power window/locks set-up or go to a manual set-up. The K5 originally had power windows/locks but they have never worked. I have a couple of doors with manual set-ups that are useable but not in great shape. I have some of Kert's tube doors that I was going to use on this.The paint on this turned out really nice. Just as soon not scratch it up for the time being. And after seeing first hand how much fun it is to line up these doors, I may just use them on the CUCV and leave them on that for the duration.
