Hey all,
I was wondering if I could put my 350 out of my 86 K-5 into my 89 K-5. :DReason being is the 89 motor is getting worn out and the 350 in my 86 only has about 15k miles on it and I will be doing a 5.3l or 6.0l conversion on it soon:waytogo:, so I wanted to donate my 350 to my wifes 89.:wink1:

I just wanted to know if that would work? I seen that trans dapt has an adapter to put the throttle bodies onto my carbed intake manifold. And of course I would need a block off plate for the mechanical fuel pump.

I'm sure there is a little more to it than that, which is what I wanted to ask you guys. What else would be needed?

Thanks,

Yes it will work as long as the cam in the carbed engine is stock. You would need a carb to TBI adapter like you said then you'll also need ALL related TBI sensors and make DAMN SURE the TV cable for the trans gets set properly assuming it's a 700R4. The TBI adapter will make the setting incorrect since the adapter will raise the height of the TBI which changes the throw ratio of the cable.

Will there be a provision for the knock sensor on the carbed motor?

Yes, it is on the passenger side and is the water jacket plug. It could prove hard to remove but if need be you can always drill it out and use a square easy out to remvoe it. DO NOT put any kind of sealer on the knock sensor or it will affect it's ability to work correctly as GM uses grounds to activate things and the sealer would interrupt that process.

i thought a carb'd motor cam wouldn't work in a computerized setup,

thought they needed a computer compatible cam.

The real deal is that FI needs to have a cam grind that doesn't drop the vacuum off the chart. If you start putting lots of overlap and duration in a cam your vacuum reading goes down and that freaks out the ECM thinking the engine is doing something it isn't.

ah, ok, i never really did in depth research about it, i have just been told about the "computer compatibility" thing and if it wasn't, or a beefed up cam, then the chip would need reprogrammed or something.

going to be doing a similar motor,,not really "swap" but replace the cam for the recently acquired TPI setup. currently has an "RV" cam
