I hate electrical work. I already have plans for some lighting I want to do after I get this thing streetable again, and I'm not really looking forward to it.

Getting Close

Worked all day long on the 100+ heat yesterday, super burnt out today. Need to order up my SYE and rear driveshaft from HAD along with a new rear pinion yoke for the u bolts instead of the straps. The 14 bolt is installed and the weight of the truck is resting on it and the jack stands it is sitting on. Hopefully I get this thing finished in the next few weeks, but with only working on it on the weekends, and next weekend probably no good for my buddy (his shop at his house) then it might be 2 weeks before more updates.

That's as far as we got because we were waiting on the freshly painted hubs to dry so we could install the rotors, and then a bada$$ roast showed up (Thanks Lynde, Wills gf) so we quit and proceeded to drink the night away. Overall a very productive day since we started out with the housing that needed the stock perches cut off and then we had to grind off the 25 year old rust and paint off the diff. I'm hoping to get this thin rolling under its own power for a wheeling trip we're planning for Labor Day.

Nice work. Your shackle angle seems to be a little off though in one of the pics. Could just an optical illusion though. Are you using the stock rear springs? Seems like my shackle flip brackets are backward from yours (spring mount pointing towards the front). Maybe I'm remembering wrong. Probably so. Let us know how the disc brakes work and what you're doing about the master cylinder/proportioning valve, etc.

The shackle angle you see is with the springs hanging in thin air pulling the shackle forward. I guess I didn't get a pic of the shackle angle after we put the weight of the truck on the axle. They are the stock 52's and that's how ORD explained it in the directions.

I only plan to go to 52's up front and 56's out back if I don't like the way these perform. I don't want to do too many mods at the same time and have something be all screwed up and not know how to fix it. If I do things one at a time and test them, I can come up with my own ideas if I like them or not.

Makes sense. Are those the heavy duty shackles from DIY4X? I have the 6" ones and I like the way they ride. Makes the truck sit high in the rear though.

they look a lot like them except the star in the middle, I've got the 6" ones for my 56's. Hope one day to put them on. :)

Did you move your axle back? I see the top plates look moved, I'm guessing you just made the perches work instead of doing 0-rates?

They are the USDR from DIY4X in 5"

The perches I got have an extra 1" lift built into them and they have the holes drilled into them to position the axle centered, 1", or 1.5" just like a zero rate. We mocked it up before we welded it and we determined that 1.5" was the best for my application. I can't remember the actual brand of perches, I bought them used from a member in our fabulous used section a few months back.

Ordered the driveshaft, sye, flange for the sye and the u bolt pinion yoke today.

Everything except the yoke from Jesse at HAD, he is back ordered on them like a mofo. I found one else where.

Gettin there

Front calipers are installed. Tried to get the rears on but found out they are seized up and then did a retarded thing and left them at my buddies house an hour away so I can't get the core charge back until I go back up there to get them. Oh well. Hopefully the SYE and driveshaft show up Thursday or earlier so I can start to seriously think about how next weekend will go. The proportioning valve for the brakes should be pretty easy, I scoped that out a bit when I was grinding the calipers.
On to the el pictaros:

Lookin good, Recon - Almost there.

Sucks about the whole landlord BS - I mean, what did he/she think was gonna happen when the axles were accidentally discovered on the balcony ? Thats just stupid suckage - They're stupid - That sucks.

Almost time to bring it back - Just smile at your landlord when they see it has returned, and cant say anything about it. :D
