89 k5 Trazer build "The Dirty Girl" *Tubed front/taper, full hydro steer*

Looks sweet!!! :D

It's time to try to break-it!:D
I can't wait to see some action shots!:wink1:

Alrighty so after that last wheeling trip this thing sat for quite awhile. A few months ago, my buddy decided that we were going to celebrate his 26th birthday with a wheeling trip to Badlands offroad park. This motivated me to get a few things done before the trip.

My bro and I bought a tubeing bender and decided a stinger for the front bumper would be the first project.

EDIT: In the above pic you can also see the power steering cooler mounted just to the right of the winch. I also replaced the power steering pump and extended the reservoir neck. If anyone wants a pic of that let me know.

The bender only goes to 90 degrees so this was made from two pieces then welded together. Here's a side shot:

Next I finally got around to installing the Northwest Fabworks triple cable shifters for the 203/205 doubler. They were a real pain in the a$$ to install especially since instructions are not included and I had to go by a picture I found on the web. Well they are installed and work pretty good:

Then came time to install a Winters Performance Sidewinder Shifter with rock crawler shift gate. Mounting a trans shifter with a cable that exits out the back in front of a tcase shifter with cables that exit the front was not fun, but I managed to squeeze everything in there. I should have installed this a long time ago. I love this shifter! being able to easily go from reverse to 1st is very handy on the trail.

Here she is parked next to Rambo, my daily driver and the vehicle that has been taking attention away from the trazer for the last year.

Added a little somethin to the fenders...

So the wheeling trip went great for me at least. Can't say the same for the rest of the rigs in my group. Total carnage included: broken NP231 front output, broken rear d-shaft, broken front axle shaft, Polaris ATV clutch grenaded, and a hydrolocked 4.6L stroker jeep engine that caused it to throw 2 rods. 1 out the pan and 1 through the block.

I didn't take many pictures so I'm waiting to get some from the rest of the group. Here's two from the campground later in the day:

As you can see I also mounted a big plastic box in the back so I actually have some storage now. And here's the money shot for the weekend:

Next project is going to be tubeing out the rear flatbed. Gotta price out and order some then we can get started. Also I would like to get started on hydro assist soon too.

Whoa, how did you find this one? Lol, I will post some updated pics when I get home from work

Ha, contemplating the truck cab swap with a short flatbed since my floor is a combination of rust, fiberglass, and crappy patch jobs thanks to the PO. Found it via the almighty search of "trazer". Great job btw.

Ok, so since some of the last pics I posted aren't working I will re-post them.

My brother and I ordered a tubing bender from Speedway motors. It only goes to 90 degrees so the stinger hoop had to made out of two pieces of tube:

Then I finally got my triple cable shifters from Northwest Fabworks installed. Talk about a pain in the a$$, some instructions would have been nice....oh and sending all the parts the first time

I also installed a Winters Performance gate style shifter. I absolutely love it!

Took it offroad like this for one trip:

Worked pretty good, got a little bit of door damage but no big deal.....

Then we ordered a few sticks of 1.75" x .120 DOM tube....

Our first bend and no swearing yet. You can also see the bender in this pic...

Temporary wooden panels were added. I would eventually like to replace these with steel plate:

Passenger side rocker panel was cut out and replaced with rectangular steel tube

Cab corner was kind of beat up so my brother cut it out

321203_10150314726037215_1094183750_n.jpg

He made this tool that he used to bend a piece of 1/8" steel to replace the cab corner

314520_10150314726207215_355294885_n.jpg

He would feed the piece through and hammer on that round tube until he reached the right curve to match the body

Welded in place, you can also see the treebar/sidestep he added

Reinforced to the frame as well:

Rear traction bar was the next project. Since I have the DIY4x wraptor and back bone, I had most of what I needed. Unfortunately I ordered a kit for a pickup instead of a blazer thinking with my stretched wheelbase this was the way to go. Well, I was wrong and the front shackle crossmember for the wraptor just wouldn't work. So we improvised:

The factory crossmember was trimmed a little to clear this:

We re-painted the entire truck and took it to the Badlands Off-road park for my Bachelor party in August:

Yes as you can see in the last pic, the drivers side rock slider wasn't finished in time...of course my brother smashed it on a tree log in the his first 2 minutes behind the wheel lol!!

Here's a few pics from the trip:

So what's next??? Well I absolutely hate the steering I have now. I kept going back and forth whether to do hydro-assist or just go full hydro. Well I decided it's time for full hydro steer. I picked up an Orbital valve at a swap meet earlier this year and my bro got me the orbital frame mount from DIY4x for Christmas. I still need to get the ram and we gotta make mounts. So in the mean time we removed the old stuff

We are going to re do the upper shock mounts to gain a little more up travel. Also it's time for some bumpstops and the front axle is going to be moved forward another 1.5 inches.

The Dirty Girl is also going to get a nose job and the rest of the cab is getting exo'd

The front tube work will be tapered with sheetmetal skins on it. That's all we got for now
