Looks good Ryan!
Thanks ben!

Alright tonight I pulled the cover off of my 14-bolt. The diff looks kinda unique to me. It may be a gov-lock, im not sure. I can't see the spider gears. Of course I forgot my camera :o so tomarrow I will snap a pic. I'm kinda new to differentials, this will be the first rebuild for me.

Here's the number that's stamped on the ring gear: 1 GM 3977334 10 41 1 80

What can you guys tell me from this number? If any of you could post a pic of your 14bff diff (open, govloc, detroit, whatever) that would be great!

Thanks for the link, I guess I need to leave the Garage more often :doah:. So it looks like I have the gov bomb. What are my options here? Can you still weld up a govloc?

Yes, if it is welded it wont have the shock on the system when it locks in to break things. You have to disassemble the carrier to weld it up though.

I pulled off the drums...man those bolts for the axle shafts were so freaking tight!! I actually broke one of the bolts :doah: But good news is that the brakes look almost brand new! There is alot of material left, so I'm just going to clean it real good, sand a little off the shoes and call it done. One of the axle seals was torn so the brakes are covered in sludge and I will have to spend a little more time cleaning. I will replace all the axle seals just to be safe.

Awesome. Hopefully I'll be doing the same thing soon. How big of a difference did your XJ shaft make? I'm considering doing the swap soon.

those brake shoes are shot. once they get soaked in oil they are no good. luckily for you they are cheap. if you are going to keep the drums, they aren't as bad as everyone makes them out to be, I would also recommend replacing the wheel cylinders. it's cheap insurance against them leaking. You only want to pull the axleshafts and drums once.

strip once side down to the backing plate and get rid of all the rust. only doing one side at a time is helpful because when you go to put everything back together you can copy the side that is still assembled.

That TRAZER emblem is awsome! What year trailblazers have those? I gotta make me some of those. Us with Trazers need some recognition. Someone should start a Trazer forum on here.

I think I pulled it off a 2003 trailblazer. The emblem that's mounted on the side molding can be pulled off. They might also have the emblem on the tailgate.

And I'm down for a trazer forum!

Well its been a long time since my last update. I've been saving up money and working on the truck a little bit here and there. I've got the brakes done on the 14bff and just need to install the drums. Then I'm going to cut off the shock mounts and clean up the housing.

I am starting my new job in two weeks. I'm really excited because the pay will be nearly double what I make now, so some of my plans have changed.

I have decided that I'm going with a detroit in the rear. Also I am still going with traditional crossover but I am going to add hydro-assist. I am not going with the np241 anymore. I want something with lower gearing and twin-stick capability (I'm gonna add cutting brakes later:D )

So I'm stuck between LOMAX 205, STaK 2-speed, and Atlas II. It's gonna be a few months before I am ready for the t-case so I have time to think about it. Each choice has its pros and cons. Maybe you guys can help me decide

Sorry no pics today :(

I got it at a local army/navy store by my house. It was kinda pricey, like 7 or 8 bucks a can, but I love the color so much and its durable. I tried a different brand, rustoleum camoflauge, and the color was ok but it scratched to easily.
