I haven't done the driver door, maybe that one could be AD3500. Although my A and D wouldn't match.

'89 R3500 Crew Cab 2wd to 4wd conversion & beyond

Started out with 2wd TBI350 with SM465 to current 4wd with 454, 700r4, NP241

I have replacement metal shim thingy. I've done this a few years ago but can't remember which side so I picked up the gaskets when RockAuto had them on clearance.
I checked torque a few weeks ago so it's not due to loose bolts.
I'm wondering if it's okay to add a thin coating of RTV to the metal shim/gasket. I'm thinking I must have a slight imperfection that eventually allows it to leak.
Thoughts?

I do put a little silicone on it.
If you have a scratch or gouge it will leak
just so happens i have 2 new seals here .

1.30 each rockauto currently.
if rtv not to much as it will fill the hub bolt holes and cause a blow out when you tighten the bolts for the axle to hub .
i prefer right stuff form a gasket these days . thicker and seals instantly basically .

I have to silicone mine really well. Even add some to the bolt holes.
Go ahead. I run a thin layer of permatex aircraft gasket sealer with the metal gasket. RTV would work just as well.

The hub flange seals on my rear axle started leaking after my Rubicon trip, so when I got home I sealed them with RTV and in two years they've not leaked since.
Spray them on both sides with a good coat of High Tack spray gasket to help it seal. Works great for gluing gaskets in place too.
My son's '03 truck had to have some on the threads to quit leaking. It drove him crazy after putting all new bearings in the rear axle! Just one stupid leak....
I tried a light skim of Right Stuff and blue loctite on the bolts. We'll see how that goes.

I had to add 2" of spacer. Luckily we had a drop piece of 2"x5" rectangle tube at the shop that was the perfect size. It was really cool of @1977k5 to include new hardware when he sold me the kit.
I just have it set to fill each side separately with a Schrader valve.
I was surprised how much just 20lbs lifted the truck. I have them set at 8psi; directions say 5psi minimum. Couldn't tell any difference in the ride with them at 8, which I think is good.
Tomorrow we're going to haul the go kart up to the woods for some riding. Should be a good trial run with the bags.
