'89 R3500 Crew Cab 2wd to 4wd conversion & beyond

Started out with 2wd TBI350 with SM465 to current 4wd with 454, 700r4, NP241
My dad had a stand that someone had made out of something like 4" pipe. Not sure what the stand was originally built for but I remember it also having a bigger footprint. Lifted a wheel when my dad ran the 1/2" stroked 440 engine on the stand and blipped the throttle. Only did that once...

From what I can see of your stand, I think that you worry too much.
Probably right! What I always think about is the threads for the bellhousing bolts holding. Even tho I know just one of the bolts could hold the weight.

@Capt Ron did you use an application specific throttle cable for the L29 in the crawlebago? I was thinking I could use the throttle cable for a 1998 C3500 like the engine came from. Obviously we weren't smart enough to save the cable in the parts truck. I just wondered if the pedal end would work in the crew cab.

I use a 97 350 tbi throttle cable in my 82 for the ls swap I’m sure you will be fine! It pushes into the cab perfectly and all.

I will probably start with the 1998 L29 throttle cable as it's 48.5" long. The 6.2L cable is 39".

I been thinking about the engine mount losing bolts. It was definitely the Rubicon when I think it really showed up. I remember noticing it seemed like the front clip was moving a lot. When the front axle dropped off an obstacle I could really see it dip down. I also tore a hood pin out of the core support. I kept noticing it on trails after the Rubicon and it was definitely a change in what I was used to seeing. The culmination was the broken hood hinge. Not surprisingly the other side is bent.

It occurs to me all this was probably happening because the engine was no longer helping to hold the frame rigid. I'm going to get some ORD competition motor mounts. I already had poly mounts but I think the ORD mounts will be easier to see if the bolts are falling out. Plus then the engine has the same bushings as the trans mount.

The poly clamshells are pure crap with a big block. I’ve destroyed multiple sets on the trail rig and I just bought ORD’s comp mounts for the street queen because they’re sagging and tearing already.

I reached out to Larry for what he’s using on the L29 in his K5 project. He went to a Lokar LS cable pn 1000LS1U. Same one we have on our 8.1’s.

I am not sure about l29, I bought them for the 8.1. ARP doesn't list manifold bolts for 8.1l. I ordered be size and length
