'89 R3500 Crew Cab 2wd to 4wd conversion & beyond

Started out with 2wd TBI350 with SM465 to current 4wd with 454, 700r4, NP241
how much would you take for the cab marker lights & harness...?

Let me take a look at them. I think I remember seeing a crack in one of the lenses.

Had a little mishap with the strong winds today. From this:

Well that may be a little misleading. The wind didn't blow the front clip off. :haha:

Just spun the truck off the jackstands. Good thing Nate had removed everything holding the cab on because we had already planned to lift it off to get the engine and trans out. Now that's the ONLY way it's coming out. Luckily motor, trans, and tcase are okay.

doh! Glad nobody got hurt and you didn't lose anything important.
My buddy, and partner in the purchase, plans to keep the 400/205 combo and he was freaking out that the transmission was going to be ruined from the fall. I had to tell him to R E L A X.

Luckily we were planning to pull the cab to get the motor, trans, and tcase out so everything was already disconnected from the cab. Would be hard to do now. The cab shifted over 6" in the fall so we know it's free to come off. LOL

So back before Blazer Bash I extended the tailpipe to get the exhaust a little quieter. It actually worked really well. Except for one of those unintended consequences.

I angle the end of the exhaust at about 45 degrees. I noticed it was basically pointed at the trailer hitch. I had the trailer wiring harness tip tied there so I figured there was a chance it would melt that. Well on the drive to Moab it did melt the tip tie. I also found that it really heated up the rear bumper in addition to the receiver hitch. Luckily it didn't melt the wiring.

Fast forward to this weekend and I tried to tow a trailer but I couldn't get the trailer plug to go in the bumper receptacle. I figured out why.

The bumper got so hot it melted the plastic enclosure. Again it didn't mess up the wiring but it really made the receptacle sag down. Deformed it enough I can't put the plug into it anymore.

They seem okay but I didn't look at them too close. I'm thinking the metal just absorbed and held a lot of heat and that's why the trailer plug partially melted. All the wiring in the area seems to be okay. I modified the tailpipe a little, dropped the outlet lower and cut a little different angle in the end to try and stop it from happening more.

Got the 454 on the engine stand today. It's a big, heavy beast. I added some support under the balancer because I feel like the 1000# Harbor Freight engine stand is about to collapse. Haha. :yikes:

Jegs has a $25 engine cradle with casters I might get to use instead. It's just a b*tch to move the motor around on the stand.
