'89 R3500 Crew Cab 2wd to 4wd conversion & beyond

Started out with 2wd TBI350 with SM465 to current 4wd with 454, 700r4, NP241
Just want to figure out how much lower a 40gal tank would hang.

Looks like the 40gal tank is only 3/8" deeper. It's big difference is 7" longer front to back. Based on RockAuto info.

I think the long bed has more overhang than a K5 but less than a Burb. Funny thing is I drag the rear bumper in the pickup less than I did the K5.

Other downside is the 40gal tank costs $50 more; $90ish compared to $140ish. Although @Justin V told me he has a 40 laying around.

I got a TBI burb tank stuffed away in the garage. I'd be willing to trade for a K5 tank skid plate. I'd have to measure it to see if it's the 40 gal or the smaller one. It was in a 2wd 89 GMC.

Unfortunately I don't have a skid, but maybe I'll come across one.

I'll probably end up fabbing a skid, especially with a 40gal tank.

From a 90, so it should be baffled, and the pump, sender and factory skid are all there

None of you guys own a degree wheel?

It seems like the only thing that degree-ing a cam is to verify that the cam is what the specs say it is. If a cam happens to be 1 or 2 degrees off on a lobe (which many are and most people do not know it) then what are you going to do. Most people just run it anyway.

I've caught 2 bad timing sets that way. I don't install cams without one.
