I've caught 2 bad timing sets that way. I don't install cams without one.It seems like the only thing that degree-ing a cam is to verify that the cam is what the specs say it is. If a cam happens to be 1 or 2 degrees off on a lobe (which many are and most people do not know it) then what are you going to do. Most people just run it anyway.
