'89 R3500 Crew Cab 2wd to 4wd conversion & beyond

Started out with 2wd TBI350 with SM465 to current 4wd with 454, 700r4, NP241
how much is the fmvb kit and time to install it ?

my usshift quick 4 kit was 800 bucks basicly and its plug-n-play and 4 different programs with tons of options.

if dd use you will prob get sick of fmvb shifting a auto . there is a member here who just posted up he is going back to reg valve body on his auto as he is tired of shifting the auto .

also why not have the trans popped apart for a tone ring install and make it a 2wd style so no need for the rear sensor on the tcase system . ? ? ? i had mine popped apart and tail shaft swapped with gasket seal kit for under 200 bucks.
Put a tone ring in it and run it. I run a 2wd 4l80e with 3 speed case. I'm using the factory GM PCM. Shifts fine in all my ranges.
I have this thing about not messing with stuff that works. I think it comes from my Navy days and the "PMS" system. Preventative Maintenance System. Seemed like we would do some scheduled maintenance on some component that was working fine and after the maintenance it would have a problem. Probably because it was assembled in a controlled environment by experienced techs and then you have a bunch of inexperienced squids messing with it while underway on 5 and dime watch rotation. Anyway I digress.

Current plan is use the USShift Quick 4 setup. I want to change out the slip yoke on the NP205 to a fixed yoke so I can add a tone ring and sensor when I do that. My buddy Nate has done it a couple of times, so it shouldn't be a big deal. Worst case, I could also use a Dakota Digital VSS on the old mechanical sender.

I'll use the 4 settings to do a:
  1. Standard
  2. Tow/Haul
  3. 4Low Magnum
  4. 4Low NP205
Then if I'm running double low, I will just go to Manual or Manutronic mode. I'm actually thinking I might just use Manual mode anytime I'm in a 4Low gear. That's how I drive now anyway. It would save me the trouble of needing to add a switch to activate the 4Low mode on the controller.

There are a lot of neat things you can do with the USShift by setting up your own switches. You can set up push buttons to up and downshift in the Manutronic mode. Turn Manual mode on and off. Cycle through the 4 shift tables. Activate 4Low tables which has provisions to accomodate a Doubler or 3spd gear boxes. There are other things but I don't remember them because they aren't things I plan to do. A person could rig up quite the switch panel for the transmission.

I'm actually thinking about using shift knobs with buttons. I could put a knob on the trans shifter to cycle through the tables and another knob on one of the tcase shifters to activate the manual mode. Only concern I have with shift knob buttons is accidentally pushing them.

If I don't use the shift knob buttons, I would like to make a panel that's on my console so I don't have to reach for the dash to use it. Although I guess that's not a huge deal since I would need to use the buttons but infrequently to change shift tables. Unless I add the push button shifting - which does sound cool.

Or I could add paddle shifters to the steering wheel.

What is the circled item and can I remove it? Screenshot_20171012-224347.jpg

I notice the instructions for the controller don't show anything plugging into it.

It's the neutral safety switch. Keeps it from starting except in park or neutral.

If you're deleting it you might as well change out the shift selector shaft and the shift shaft seal as well. They have a tendency to leak like sieves over time.

95-up park/n safty switch for gm .

usshift dosnt use it .

easy to swap in the short shaft for the shifter . i did one cause the nut was rusted to it and snapped the threads off.

Is that easy to source?
