'89 R3500 Crew Cab 2wd to 4wd conversion & beyond

Started out with 2wd TBI350 with SM465 to current 4wd with 454, 700r4, NP241
I'm sure you've gone over this at some point but do you have any gaps between the radiator and core support or radiator and shroud that are allowing your setup to not be as efficient as it should be.
I did look that over and it fits nicely. There's maybe an 1/8" gap between shroud and radiator. I did see one notch on the passenger side of the shroud that must clear something on the 6.2. Was thinking I could cover that up, not that it's very big.

And here I drive the C10 home with AC running, 91° out and the fans don't come on until 12 minutes into the drive engine temp never gets above 190°. All it has is is a big block radiator and Windstar fans.

Running an SBC and a 1.5 ton lighter probably helps.

You’re sure your crew cab radiator isn’t blocked somewhere?

Only thing in front of it is a trans cooler. I'd love to have an an condenser in front of it but I don't.

Is the gauge actually reading accurate? I'll be honest I skipped back only a few pages.

I'll be that guy though. 3800CFM with dual row 1" tubes. Its a drop in solution once you cut whatever is in the way. You'll stop hearing the insane fan noise after a few trail rides.

It is a new radiator about 2 years ago. Had a whole fiasco getting one; took 3 tries before I got one undamaged in shipping.

Before the mechanical fan I had an 18" Lincoln fan with a 17" Volvo fan. They totally covered the 19"x35" core with a little fan hanging over on 1 side. It was great on the trail, but not so good towing.

I've mentioned before, it probably isn't easy to find a balance between the 2 uses.

It's not the fans were looking at here. Mech flows more than electrical. But if your rad just can't keep up then it can't keep up.

I don't think it's the radiator, it's air flow. I have to block the radiator in the winter so it will warm up at all.

So get really creative and cut you radiator support. You hole is for a gas motor and you radiator is a diesel like 6 inches are not seeing any air.

If you Google adjusting a thermal fan clutch, there is a lot of discussion about it. A few videos was well. I am not going to link anything here, because there is lots of discussion to sort through in some places.
Make a mark where you start and see what adjustments do.

And it's just labor to try it!!

That's not a bad idea. I actually did that on my K5. I cut a shape like this [ and bent it in like a flap.

I will check it out.

I really believe that between the fan not coming in soon enough and the fan being too far into the shroud, you have 2 things impeding cooling because of airflow.

And I was told that your sausage fingers won't be able to bolt up a fan which is on a low profile fan clutch and has spacers too! Cut that fan shroud!!!

:haha:

You are too meticulous to do a poor chop job.
