'89 R3500 Crew Cab 2wd to 4wd conversion & beyond

Started out with 2wd TBI350 with SM465 to current 4wd with 454, 700r4, NP241
PRP sells heated and COOLED seats now. Too fancy.

I want them.

We just got our first newer vehicle with them. I like them but the wife thinks they feel a little weird.

I'll never forget the first time I experienced them. Granted it was 118 degrees in Phoenix and I just finished a round a golf, it was life changing.

The Yukon has the cooling. Always feels weird on my ass. Wife likes it so that’s the important part.

Been debating about the oil pump. I'd like to do something to further secure the pickup to the pump, but I don't think there's any chance welding would hold with it all oily. Do I get a new pump and pickup to weld? Or figure it isn't falling off if it's been on there this long? Or something else?

I've even considered making a bracket from the pickup tube to one of the oil pump cover bolts. I'm sure I could get a spot on the pickup tube clean enough to weld.

I have never had the misfortune of having the pick-up fall out. I don't remember my Dad having it happen either, even on the 350 that he put 270K on in his '72.
But I started welding them sometime around the mid nineties after listening to an old guy at a machine shop.

I believe that you could clean the pump off well enough to weld it. I would be tempted to warm it a little with a propane torch after cleaning it, in order to cook the joint slightly.

I would pull the cover off of the pump and inspect it before anything. Just to get an idea if all is well. That could influence how you proceed.

only fail i saw and fixed was a dump truck 427 swapped in a can and smacked pan up and moved pickup tube and caused problems .

otherwise brake clean it / wire brush it / WELD IT good with a solid tack and go have fun .

I like you red idea, because it doesn't require welding to the oily cast iron, and it won't let the pickup slide out. Just don't get it too hot, because that large opening is brazed on the tube sometimes, or is yours welded?

You may need a slightly longer bolt on that spot, make sure its an equivalent grade.

If it was brand new, I would just MIG tack weld it or TIG weld it.

There are oil pump pick ups with a bracket that goes to the pump mounting bolt but I'm not sure if these pick ups are specific to aftermarket pans.
