89 Suburban is gone....added a K5 in it's place..87 V30 WONTON

I could use some advice on the high beam switch. It's a floor mount and I need to move it to a hand switch. Is it as simple as wiring in a switch with the proper amp rating or am I missing something? @Fastereddie @Bent77

My pirate leg won't do the job.

What part of Idaho you in? We loved it when we lived up there for 10 months. I miss it, lots greener than my part of Utah now.

One way would be to swap in a column from a later truck to get the high beam switch with the turn signal. That would be the cleanest but require more work in the wiring side.

A simple toggle switch would work too.

wonder how hard it would be to retrofit a newer column with it on the turn signal stalk

edit: I see Zoo already asked that.

Have a missing floor switch on my Camaro now. Was thinking of a toggle into a relay.

@Fastereddie ?
A toggle switch running a 5 pin relay would be simple. Connect the low beams to the n/c of the relay and high beams to the n/o.

What Ed said is the quickest, simplest,I swapped a newe column out of a 84 because I wanted tilt, wasn’t difficult to run the wires from original switch up to wires on column mounted switch.

Fortunately my column is still good it's the OG 77 non tilt (no headlight switch available). I've learned my lesson about grabbing the wheel to get in back in high school. Wobbly wheel along with a case of death wobble sucks! Lol

This is good to know because I've been saving a rebuilt tilt column for about a decade

I'll have to have e one of your relays for dummies diagrams again

The pics are near Swan Valley. I'm based in Blackfoot about 40 miles south of those pics.

I will someday I'm sure. Right now the old column is in great shape. Thankfully I can grab my roll bar and do an embarrassing pull up to climb in. On the plus side I'm exercising when I drive hahah

I lived in Rigby. I love the Swan Valley area. I thought that looked like it. Lots of pretty places to cruise around out there. Make sure you get up to see Mesa Falls by Ashton some time. I think there's another one up there too. Both are snowed in during the winter.

Thanka for the tips. I'll check them out. I've been trying to see what I can because I hate driving in snow and the K5 doesn't have a heater yet.

The year I moved to Idaho it was like 50s on thanksgiving when we moved then they had a 20 yr winter with several feet of snow and temps well into the negative teens. I remember going on a service call and it was -19F without the wind chill.

It's crazy yesterday was beautiful and it got a little cloudy and just started dumping snow. I woke up this morning to having to scrape snow off of everything. I didn't get a pic but I'm sure it'll be here later for all the pics I can handle hahah. I'll have to go get a snow shovel and salt for the shop. Also have plans to get those slip on spikes for my boots. I didn't realize how slippery it is with this new leg.

Sad thing is I don't have a garage right now for the first time in my life. Can't stand seeing my blazer sit in this weather. Maybe get a storage unit for the winter?

Yeah you guys have a lot of snow moving across it looks like. We don't get a lot where I'm at due to the mtns. I wish we would get hammered with snow.

Yeah, it's amazing how much control we get from feeling at the bottom of our feet.
My brother had lime disease and lost the nerves in his feet and if he closed his eyes he would keel over because his feet couldn't sense pressure from leaning.
It's going to take you some time but you will adjust, in the meantime get some traction aids, maybe a locker :pimp:

I lived in Idaho Falls for 6 months over the winter back in the mid 90's and it was the snowiest winter on record. After that experience, snow is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Idaho.

Nothing truck wise except transmission is needing fluid every time I drive if it sits. No idea where it goes.

Another non truck update. Super embarrassing moment at dinner tonight. I pull up on Main St. to meet family and as I got out of the truck my pirate leg flew off into the street. As I was trying to get it into the truck hooked with my cane a good looking woman started to walk by asking if I needed help, of course RAH I don't need help.....until I dropped it and it slid on the ice under the truck. FU*K I needed help. She promptly climbed under me/truck to grab it. I was warm from embarrassment at this point and more so when, wait for it.......................she was a waitress where I was eating. Ahhhhh well sh!t lol.:haha:

I didn't know if I should scream or ask for her number
