'90 K5 'Barney'

True duals, I took the advice given and had it run out the sides to avoid having it come back in the rear window. I was rushed so I only snapped these pictures. 3inch from the collectors to 40series flow masters and 2.5inch tail pipes. I’m very happy with the way it sounds.

I did forget about the T/C lockup wiring, gotta get that wired up next.

I got a wild hair and started installing a dash pad from LMC that I’ve had for years, I got very annoyed with trying to make it fit over the top left corner of the bezel and left side of the dash even with trimming. I’ll come back to it later with a clearer head and after doing some forum searching for some tips. I think some warmer weather might help it out too but I’m not going to see that for awhile I think.

Here is the LMC dash pad that if I remember is Dashes direct. Don’t quote me there. I could not get the corner over the battery to come even close to fitting, I may have created this issue from storing it honestly.

I love the stock square body dash, I decided nothing else would do and I had to have a good one. After looking at the one @obijuank5 installed in his crew I ponied up the money and bought the assembled color matched dash pad from Cheyenne pickup parts and I could not be happier. It also left a little to be desired over the top left but I was able to get this installed and gosh I am happy now!

I finally got some spare time and sorted out the A/C, I knew there was some hacking that had been done on the harness and I had put off addressing the A/C, luckily when I had pulled the TBI stuff out of the harness I found the broken wire and I knew right where to butt connect the wire for the pressure switch and get all that back together. With the help of my brother (he’s got all the A/C service tools), we installed a new compressor, drier and all the other bells and whistles and now the A/C works, hopefully it’ll hold a charge now. Barney is going to have to be driven now while I wait for the LBZ to get the tranny issues looked at.

Finally wired up the TC lockup on this truck, I essentially followed this diagram with the addition of a ground added on the back left (drivers side) pin. It now locks in 2-3-4. I’m not thrilled with it at the current time but it works, I ordered an adjustable vacuum switch and I’m going to try to experiment with finding a happy medium on vacuum and I think I’ll be happy with it in the end.

I did a lot of research here and on google and I can’t find a definitive answer on if locking too early will cause more issues than being unlocked, for now I’m just holding the brake switch on until I get on the highway, if I find that I can’t get the vac switch to work right I’ll install a rocker switch and try to remember to turn it on once up to speed but I’m trying hard to keep from doing that so that anyone can get in this thing and ride and not have to give anyone who drives it a tutorial and hope they remember to use it.

I ordered a pressure switch kit from American autowire but didn’t realize the pressure port they want you to use is optional and not on all 700r4’s so that wouldn’t work for my application and is what caused me to go this complicated route.

Vac switch is in, even at its lowest setting it’s not great, tries to lock/unlock too much in OD @70, I think a large part of the problem is the deep gearing, I may revisit the vac switch idea once I have better gearing. Looks like I’m just going to go with a switch until I find something better to try.

I am really, really wanting to just add a third pedal. I wish I’d never rebuilt this slush box.

I wired mine to come in with the fourth gear switch built into the Transmission. Power into a relay, with the 4th gear switch as the ground to activate the relay, which activates the lock up circuit. The brake switch is wired in to disconnect the circuit, and I also have a toggle to force lock up in 2nd or 3rd if I need it.

Am I using the wrong pin or something? I went to the front left (drivers side pin) and that is locking up 2-3-4 on mine.

I can't remember the pin out. It should be that the lock up requires power.

The fourth gear switch connects to ground when activated.

So all I have going on is a power into the SWITCHED side of the relay, then going to the lock up circuit.

Then power going into the magnet/activation/switching (whatever you want to call it) side of the relay. That connection goes to my cruise control side of my brake switch (4 prong) then down to 4th gear circuit. It is also tee'd off to a toggle that goes to ground, after the brake switch but before the 4th gear circuit.

This way the 4th gear switch will ground the relay, or my toggle will ground the relay.

The brake switch interrupts the grounding.

It is not perfect. There are many times that I wish the 4th gear wasn't instantly locked up. But the trans has lasted at least 5000 miles this way.

If it wasn't raining I would crawl under the truck and tell you what went where at the connector.

I bought a house, it came with a 25x30 shop but the previous owners never ran power to the shop :screwy:

I spent some time, dug a line, tied it in to the house, and installed a breaker box in the shop, hung four lights, 2 probably would have been ‘good enough’ but when it comes to lighting I firmly believe overkill is best, over the course of 3 days I got it all done and dang it I’m a happy camper. Now we have a proper place to wrench. I’m hoping when things slow down in a month or two to do some real work out here this winter. I still need to go around the perimeter and add outlets, I just threw one set and a 220v up to make do. It’ll probably be that way for longer than it should :haha:

I got my last side job out of the shop this weekend, got home with the transmission and It was raining, what better rainy day project than cleaning the shop? Also hung a hose reel, threw together this work bench and mounted a vise. I still need to collect some jack stands, a creeper, and a second jack or trans jack to make this a ‘safe’ project.

I’ve got to wait on my Duramax to be fixed before I can take Barney off the road, I’m hoping the truck will be done soon and by mid October I can have everything I need to tear it apart and swap in the NV4500. I’ve been stalking every NV4500 swapped thread I can find for information so that I can try and have everything for a quick swap. We’ll see how it goes. Any tips and tricks from those that have done it are more than welcomed here.

Thankfully Barney is holding up well to daily driver duty and more than deserving of some love.

Don't loose that cap to the clutch fluid reservoir. Can't get them anymore anywhere.

I think I saw in your thread you having trouble with that, now that you specifically told me this I’m sure it’s a goner. :surepal:

I’ll do my best to keep up with it. Lol

Well October has been eventful, we got married on October 10th it was a great time with tons of family and friends but go figure on October 20th both my wife and I got the COVID, been down for a week now and feeling better but no where near pulling the trans out and installing the manual right now, still lacking a shifter tower and clutch. Had a birthday a couple of weeks ago and was given this light bar so just to get up and do something I mounted it, I’m personally not a fan of these but hey, it’s free, it fills this spot of nicely and it gives Barney +1000 yee yee points which he was needing. :haha:
