'90 K5 - Project Betty - LS3 Swap for a DD/Offroad/Utility Build

I'm interested to see how you get it to fit so I can swap mine out cause my crossover has hit the factory one a few times.

Motor Mounts/Down Time

I ended up ordering the lower half of the ORD motor mount which an extra wide bushing to make it 3.5" wide, and they will include two 0.25" washers to bring it to 4" I need for the dirty dingo brackets.

In the meanwhile I ran 1,700' feet of lumber to make some custom baseboards for the remodel.

Small Projects

Killing time while waiting on my fuel lines/fittings. Got these drawers/bins for like $4 on rockler and made this setup on casters.

Engine Test Fit/ORD Crossmember

First two pics are with motor mounts all the way forward. The 2nd pair are all the way backwards, plenty of clearance either way.

LS3 is In!!! Now help please.

Engine is in, and now comes the rest of the problems.

So the LS3 has a car intake and a truck harmonic balancer/pulley. I have corvette accessories.

The problem being...

1. That corvette, camaro, and truck accessories/balancers have different offsets and their accessories are not interchangeable (at least in stock form).
2. Truck accessories are not supposed to fit with a car intake bc of the outlet conflicting with the car intakes lower throttle body.
3. Truck accessories are not easy to find (as in I cannot find a complete kit like the corvette setup).
4. I have the accessories for more than 30 days, and I am not sure how the return will go.

Any suggestions how I can make this work?

Do the car accessories fit in the frame rails? If so, use them. Just get the car balancer/pulley.

Most of the people here that have done the LS swap are using a JY takeout with all the accessories intact. You're kinda treading on new ground here.... with awesome results so far. :waytogo:

I am pretty sure all accessory scenarios will fit the engine bay/frame fine.

I thought about replacing the main pulley, but was not sure how involved that would be and liked how everything was already balanced. Plus the prices range from $90-$500 for a new one (not sure how much better the $500 one is) and it would likely void the warranty by replacing parts.

I am going to call blueprint when they open. LS's have been around too long, and they sell too many to have made this mistake. There must be someway that is not currently that well documented (spent a couple hours googling on Sunday, lots of options to run truck or various accessories with car pulleys, not the other way around).

I don't think there is a missing bolt here. That is a through hole for an oil pan bolt I believe.

Can't you just install a metric bolt there?

I wouldn't worry about that, four (or five if you find a bolt for the other side) bolts will be plenty to hold that cover in place. It isn't even technically necessary to have that cover.

Nothing is missing here. The Gen III small blocks don't have a bolt there. It would hit the water jacket. The 350 TBI you took out didn't have that top center bolt.

Martin,

Thanks for the help.
1. I was not concerned with the bolt hole in the first pic.
2. The hole in the 2nd pic is not tapped or drilled in the dust cover.
3. I have 5 bolts in, so I think you're right.

Blueprint Engines is no longer returning my calls. They said that I am the first person to bring this up. Everybody I talk to says I need to replace the harmonic balancer (to a corvette or camaro version) or replace the intake with a truck version. It just seems unbelievable that nobody else has ran into this.

What water pump do you have? If you have a truck waterpump does it clear the car intake? What truck intake would fit your heads? Escalade?

We used a car intake (FAST) with truck accessories. Talk about a nightmare. I'd try to find the right balancer.

The water pump is for a corvette. The truck water pump is not suppose to clear the intake. I have seen some with different return outlets (goes more up and out then up and back) that would probably clear, but then you are still stuck with the alternator and tension pulley that will interfere with the air intake.

I have located the right balancer, but do not feel like it is my responsibility to purchase it. It would rather have the engine not come with a harmonic balancer then the wrong one. Blueprint needs to fix it or offer another solution.

Having said that. How involved is replacing the balancer? I know I will need special tools to pull it and put the new one on. Also I have to keep the engine from rotating, not interested in pulling the oil pan and wedging a hammer. Any other ideas?

Thanks
