'90 K5 - Project Betty - LS3 Swap for a DD/Offroad/Utility Build

The L99 (I think) waterpump has a front output and works with truck accessories. We cut the truck bracket down on the alternator side, mounted a pulley in a threaded hole, cut down the adjuster to fit on the new waterpump and bought a different belt.

I believe we just used a jaw puller to get the balancer off. It had ears that made it a snap to pull. I'll have to double check with my buddy to make sure it was that simple, they reassembled it when I was out of town. I can take a few pictures of his setup if you're interested, but changing the balancer would be the simple solution. Bummer about blueprint not doing the right thing.

My buddy just finished a carbed LS 6.0 swap into his 72 Camaro and it had the wrong balancer on it (bought it all used, pieced together, etc). It was no big deal to swap the balancer out to the one he needed.

Do you have air tools? An impact gun should make short work of the crank bolt. If not, still shouldn't be difficult (famous last words).

Fortunately for me, tools are not my problem. It if is just simply getting it on and off, then that is not a problem. For some reason I thought there was process of finding TDC, aligning the balancer appropriately, some minor precision.

Balancer is keyed if I recall correctly. Only goes on one way. Should be simple.

Balancer was keyed, i got it off last night. It was a major PiTA, or really just a lot of turns on a cheater pipe. New one comes today, hopefully can get the accessories on in a day or so.

Already ran the fuel lines and pressure regulator, guess I forgot to post those pics

Oh no, they wont get back to me. I am going to ask to have them reimburse me, doubt they will, but worth a shot. But I figured if they did send me one, it would take forever, and I am ready to keep going.

Called BluePrint back bc I was tired of waiting around. The told me the reason they designed it that way is because that is how the GM crate engines come. I could find no such engines in the latest GMPP catalog.

They did acknowledge that is was a design flaw and said they may either start offering it without a balancer or might have to break down and put the corvette balancer on it. Which I do not know why that would be "breaking down", I do not think there is a price difference or much of one relative to the motor costs.

can you measure the depth of your oil pan around the area where the crossmember is?
Also what motor mounts did you end up using?

ORD's lowers and dirty dingos uppers

Depth from the base of the block?

They gave me poly bushings that were 1/2" wider and two 1/4" washers to fit the 4" brackets.

Well SOB! The stock balancer is not keyed, apparently none of the stock ones are. The setup uses a custom crankshaft, I'll have to deal with those ass holes again tomorrow.

Looks like it is about 2 to 2.5" deep there. Its hard to measure bc I have like 20 interior doors with paint drying in my garage. I have 1.5" of clearance between the crossmember and oil pan.

Anybody know anything about balancers? They get spendy as ****, anything I should be looking for?

Ended up getting PFS-80033, instead of the PFS-80034 the engine came with. Blueprint said it should work, and that they will probably stop selling the engine with the balancer. Should have it by Thursday.
