'90 K5 - Project Betty - LS3 Swap for a DD/Offroad/Utility Build

It was my idea. The only photo I have gotten that I wanted since before I was married. Women.

Replacement Tailgate

My tailgate is fully function (with automatic window), but is pretty beat to ****. I was going to look at pricing out what it would run to have the rear quarter panels skinned or puttied, and thought it would probably just be easier to replace the tailgate.

I know this sounds whiny because these trucks are work, but I really do not want to take apart my tailgate and introduce it into a new shell (would rather spend time on cooler shiz).

Does anybody know of a place that sells full replacement tailgates? I have found several shells and components on LCM, etc, but nothing fully assembled.

I thought about craigslisting one, but I am not sure if early/mid 80's are compatible with the 89-91's. Look very similar.

Not sure about finding a good full replacement one.
It's not hard to change the guts in one if you could find a better shell.
It should only take an hour or two change out.
I could probably help you change it if needed.

It looked like it has a ton of pieces from the LMC diagram, but if you say its not that hard then maybe I will give it a shot.

I am not looking forward to putting the doors back together either. I started taking them apart in 2011 before we moved, with the intention of swapping the interior components plus new window motors into junk yard ones.

I might have to get another junk yard door just so I can remember how they go back together.

Time to Get Back to Business

Gantry Crane

I find myself having to lift heavy objects all the time (welder, bandsaw, etc) that really require two or more people. I use the engine hoist for most of it, but the long legs sticking out in front often make it a pain in the ass.

I have long wanted a gantry crane, but havent had the time to make one. I asked a frac company who does a lot of work for me, if I could hire some of their guys to do it in their spare time. They said sure, since you are such a good customer, we will just build it for free. I am thinking I hit the jackpot. I give them dimension and they have it built in no time. The problem is, they used a little artistic license on the height, but you cant look a gift horse in the mouth. That began my struggle to put a 10' object through a 8' door.

Gantry Crane

Currently I have it adjusted to 11' under the beam. It has some more room to go, but I ran out of cord on my electric come-along, and just stopped there

It is because of the pic size probably.

Welding Table

I know I have not been to active for a while, but I have been plugging away slowly.

I got side tracked because I was tired of welding on the ground. Bought a scrap CNC table top and built a welding table.
