'90 K5 "Project Sanity" Sold 7/5/2018

-27C this morning...without the wind. However, the forecast is calling for much warmer by the weekend so I may get brave and go out there and tinker a bit.

Trying to re-connect all we unplugged looking for the key off draw. I think I got most of it, but found this on the floor...and can't seem to see where it goes.

Anyone know?

Doesn't appear so, and has tabs on the side like it goes into a plug with a couple of grip tabs on it...:dunno:

'90 K5 "Project Sanity" **working on it again, electrical Q 2/15/14**

Seems like there's another little fuse block way up under the dash by the steering column. I think it has the relay for the turn signal and some other stuff. It could be for the windshield wipers or something.

Or that could be on another truck. I'll remember later.

That is your horn relay. Like mentioned above it is on the small auxiliary relay block on the side of the steering column down under the dash.

I can come down and take another stab at your key off draw on the weekend of the 1st if you want?

Found where it goes. Russel and I went through the truck one fuse at a time and came up with bupkis.

Russel, that weekend would be fine if you want to come tinker a bit and take another stab at it. I should have the working area around the truck cleaner by then too...lol

Still have my number?

It may be one that just fell out a while back and has already been replaced. I would bet that it's for something in the cab since it's from a fuse block under the dash.

My wife's Jeep has a loose socket for the wiper relay and the relay falls out and appears on the floor board from time to time.

Went through both fuses blocks?

Yup... It has a draw still with all the fuses removed. Over 200mA if I recall correctly. I need a bit more time to go through the wiring in the engine compartment and disconnect stuff like the alternator etc to find the source.

How is the winch wired up? I don't see how that could draw the battery down bit I'm just throwing out ideas.

Original winch on the truck wasn't wired when I got it, couldn't find any remnants either. Aside from the winch, the rest hasn't been messed with other than me adding a stereo which didn't change the key-off draw that it had from the day I got it. Ironically, from an electrical standpoint this truck is the least messed with square body I've ever owned.

The little white cube is the horn relay (thanks for chiming in Russ) and plugs into a block near the steering column.

It appears I have everything plugged back in now, gonna buy a new battery tomorrow and fire it up, maybe get a few other things taken care of. Hopefully if Russel does have time to help me out some more we can finally trace down the draw and get it taken care of. If not I will run a night switch...

An alternator or starter can also cause a draw. Just something else to look at.

Good to see you wanting to work on it again. I liked following your progress. Looked back at it a few times, sort of did my exhaust the same way as you did.

x2 on the alternator. Try unhooking (charge wire and plug) it for a couple days and letting it sit.
