'90 K5 "Project Sanity" Sold 7/5/2018

I swear to God, the squirter hose on my 88 Sub isn't connected either and it pisses on the cars in front of me too. I found that out sitting in the parking lot of the grocery store waiting for the wife to come back. I hit the squirter button and *presto*, Fillmore was taking a piss on a Honda.

Something like that does break up the boredom alright. :haha:

Started the rust repair on this today. Same plan as before, spend little to nothing to make the truck better. I had some decent box sides leaning against my garage for the last year...time to put them to good use!

This is what it started out looking like.

I cut a section from the donor box side...

I then trimmed the lower remains of the inner and outer lip so I could trial fit the patch.

Here it is clamped for marking the body of the truck.

I had to deal with this first though...the inner part was pretty bad!

Here is the inner donor piece clamped in place.

All the rusty thin crap removed...

Fit in place, and part way through the welding...

Welded and ground.

90blazer013.jpg

Two coats of rust paint for good measure.

I've lost the light and will continue tomorrow. No mercy on my kids tomorrow either. I waited until noon to start today due to kids sleeping in. I'll start back at it at 9 am sharp tomorrow. I hope to get this side mostly taken care of before I gotta call it a day.

Good work going on there. Gives me hope for one day saving Krusty from the cancer that continues to spread.

Well, with the big olympic party two blocks away I wasn't too worried about getting a noise complaint...so i hooked up a light and carried on for a while.

So far everything lines up near perfect. Gonna get it so i have a good full pen tack every 3/4" or so. The rest will be fill, prime and paint. Looking pretty straight still...

looks real good man.i finally decided i was tired of building a crazy 4 x truck also.i quit building now and am trying to restore mine and get it legal again at the same time.i have seen it sit for 2 years now since it last failed inspection.now am replacing all the rust ad rot and will be able to enjoy it whenever i have time.it is still gonna be capable of mid range wheeling as it is on 35s and 5 inch lift, but im done trying to make it tougher for the trails.the more i ad into it seems the more it sits waiting for other mods to it to get it stronger.then i still dont get to enjoy just the everyday drive and beiong able to use it as is tor apart awaiting other "things".you really opened my eyes to the fact that you should be able to use your truck and not be so worried about what you are going to do to it next.

Money shot for this part of it anyways.

That's with the primer wet, and the sun reflecting on it. Still need a couple of spots taken care of, then final sanding. At least for now the worst is done and it has primer on it.

Primer dry.

Before, direct comparison. :)

Still have to do the box tube rockers, a little floor repair around the seat belt mounts and the other rear quarter. At least now I feel some more motivation to continue. I probably have no more than 7 or 8 hours into this side. The passenger side has some dents to deal with too though...should still work out.

The school of CK5 brother...most of it anyways. The welding I could do in my sleep having been my trade for over 20 years. The rest has just been practice. Find what works, what tool is best for where, etc etc.

I like my flexible board sander for the long flattish areas. Keeps the waves to a minimum. I do have a few spots that need a little more work, but overall I'm pretty happy with it at this point.

This side will be tougher for sure.

The fuel door isn't so sexy and I don't have a clean straight spare. The crease in the body line at the rear I think I'm just going to cut out. That'll be a lot easier than using a hammer and dolly.

looks great, Rene! You just increased the value of your truck for uber-cheap! :D :waytogo:

man im addicated > if spelled correct< i cant wait till he does the rear floor by the seat belt ...i just found out my 90 k5 has the the same problem about 4 inches long .....oh im so mad i though my blazer was rust free ...well i guess its not to bad ...at least the outside doesnt have any ......and im making sire it doesnt start either...sorry about running on ....quiet mode on

Wish I had the patience and talent to do GOOD body work like you!..I try,but get discouraged when I see even new panels rot away here in a few years,if that..or some jerk HITS you right after its done!..

My 85 Burb has a similar looking lower rear 1/4,but no damage above the mouldinmg strip...you might be able to get that dent out by using a stud welder and a morgan knocker,I've seen my friend do a few on used cars with one,and he is NO body man,let me tell ya!..you can slide hammer it out and just skim coat it with bondo...

Me?..I just braze or pop rivet galvanized stove pipe over rotted or dented areas now, most times I dont even put any bondo over it,I just paint it..as long as it passes for a sticker,I'm beyond caring how "nice" my trucks look any more,I just want them to run,get me there, and back home again!..

I have a complete boxside for donor stuff for that side too...plus this just arrived thanks to Throttleissues..

Working on house stuff this weekend though, so I'll probably get a start on the passenger side next weekend. Still deciding whether or not to make my own patch panels for the floor, or take a chance on the off shore stuff LMC and the like sell. I'm leaning towards making my own stuff...I do have a surplus of good oem sheet metal here.
