'90 K5 "Project Sanity" Sold 7/5/2018

That is way too cool, I'm even happy for you just reading this.

I'm so fired up also, I got my seats back tonight, 4 or 5 months later, from the guy that was recovering them.

That's a long time to wait for seats!!! I sure hope they are everything you hoped for when you gave them to him!

I have to agree with the idea here Rene! I love the fact that I can take off in Krusty any time I need to (tonight for example), and she just gets me where I need to go. Nothing like being able to hit the trails while reading about others working hard on thier builds while I go wheeling.

I think I like the Build more than wheeling, I have multiple Vehicles so I always have something to wheel..........

My problem is work, I dont have time for either anymore

Yup he started a new job, then got in a car wreck and hurt his back so I did not push him to hard for them. They turned out great, he said they where a pain in the ass to do in the factory strech material, but they do look good. Check them out in my build

Dude the keys thing is something I would get way excited about. I would be running in the house to tell my wife make her come outside just so I could prove it to her!

Trust me I am more excited about my crew cab than I have been about any other truck in a long time, all I am doing to that is making a running nearly stock truck that is ready to haul at a moments notice.

My next blazer project is going to be the same but with very mild bolt on pieces

Glad to hear things are going good, I am sure your blazer is glad too :D

I know I don't have any door keys for my K30 (don't really need the ignition key that I do have), the lock on the barn doors of my Suburban doesn't work, and I am not sure if I have door keys to my K5. . . . .

Damn Rene....

I'd just put new quarter panels on it and repair the rocker. QP's are a PITA but it'd save you alot of fitting/grinding/bondo.

I'm getting reasonably good at patching in panels now. I have this to hack sections out of...

Rockers will be 3"x4" x .125" box tubing.

The only part I need to make is the seat belt anchor area on the passenger side.

I did exactly that...My wife kinda rolled her eyes, until she saw how the gate is supposed to work with that key. Then she thought it was pretty slick. ;)

I was quite pleased when I discovered my rear window works with the key. I had to readjust the window a bit after the Rhino Lining but still, it all works!

Keys...with that many miles do yours stay in the ignition? I can pull the key right out and leave it running. Can't start it without a key in there though.

Oh, and the change, I know the feeling. I got at least $5 in change out of The Blazer. The ash tray and cup holders were FULL of change...and ash...and trash...and gooey stuff. I cleaned all the change and spent it.

My key stays in. I can move it a little in the run position, but it won't come out or anything.

The worst was the cupholder part of the console. Thankfully it pops out easily. I let it soak in hot soapy water for about 20 minutes, then used and old toothbrush on it.

Dishwasher...at least twice that I can remember.

I scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed and...

kennyw will attest to how much of a pig this guy must have been. When the ashtray and the cup holder got too full he started using the t-case shifter boot as the third line reserve ash tray.

That is just sick that people let stuff get that bad.
I did have to die mine back black because of age.

First thing I did with mine was find a gas station with a dumpster and clean out the back. I still found all kinds of crap in it. Luckily no actual crap.

I also drove with the windows down at least to the east side of the mountains in Washington.

Holy chit....

I've had my k5 for 6 years and I just realized that I have that too.....

:haha:

Thanks rene.:D:doah:

Glad to hear your project is coming along, finding those keys must have been great!..

While we are talking tailgates,I bought one for my Burb off CL on Tuesday, off an '89 Suburban for 40 bucks!..not perfect, but it has just a bit of bubbling at the bottom that'll be an easy fix,and the power window works fine (been "opened up" before and I'm sure the tracks & rollers had some "work" done to them, but it works OK,better than the rotted out one I have on it now!)--this one has a good window with the defroster printed circuit also,as does my original gate..

Only bummer is the guy didn't have a key for the lock/window switch,--if the one on my old tailgate works with the key (haven't had time to try it yet) ,how much of a bear is it to swap out the lock cylinder/switch??..worth doing,or is it a PITA??--if its too much like work I'll use the switch on the dash --I grabbed that off the parts truck too, mine sticks in the down position)...I may not put the "new" tailgate on until spring,no sence in letting it rust all winter sitting in my yard,right??..

Rene, that yellow bed looks pretty nice, seems a shame to carve it up!..I was hoping to get the inner wheel arches off the Burb I got the gate from, but they were already rotted almost as bad as mine are..:(
I was thinking of using that expanding foam inside the quarters frrst and then putting galvanized metal over the rotted area with pop rivets..its on the inside,so I dont care what it looks like!..I just want to keep the outer wells from getting salt blasted and worse than they are already..

Every easy, just has 2 nuts inside the gate that holds it on.

Well, if it's similar to the K5 gate the hard part is getting to the lock mechanism. It's under everything...so you gotta remove the felt wipers, glass, regulator first, then under that is the key mechanism. Not bad if you have a bit of time and patience...

I find it easy to find time and patience when I don't have any money to throw at it.

The Yellow bed wasn't perfect, but definitely decent and relatively rust free. My original intention was to shorten it for the Crew Cab, so it got cut down pretty much the day after I got it home. Then I decided to go with a stepside instead, so now it's slowly donating bits and pieces of itself to other things. The floor will be the floor for the stepside box, the box sides will get used for the K5, the front bulkhead and leftovers might go to scrap though. The inner wheelhouses will get saved...

Next up is fixing the tail light wiring. :doah:

Might have to spend a few dollars on good crimp connectors and shrink tube. Gotta dig through my junk first though.
