'90 K5 "Project Sanity" Sold 7/5/2018

Rene, reading through this thread has reminded me how woefully inadequate my fabrication skills are.... almost as bad as my [insert crawl ratio, hp figure, RPI, FPM, RTI, Drivetrain specifications, IQ, Bench Press, etc.]. Kind of inspires me to see if i can find time in my schedule to take a metal working class at the local community college or somethin. :D

darned impressive work buddy

I think the front springs I have now are 3", might even be tough country. Not sure on brand, but they came with 3" rear blocks and the truck they came out of sat level. I think 35's would be just fine, even up to 37" would be A-OK...the key IMO is that they're radial and not outstandingly aggressive.

I have the benefit of knowing what i really liked about my old '81, and what I hated about it.

I dunno about any of that stuff going into the truck in a weekend, but most of it is pretty straightforward. I think I'll swap all the drivetrain stuff first, get the little kinks ironed out, then make the 454 swap a whole nother project.

Should still look pretty stock from the outside. The triple sticks will be a bit of a give-away though.

I think stock white steelies with dog dish hubcaps would be cool.

Blows the budget but I believe Stockton wheel and a few others make Rally knock offs in whatever size and lug pattern you want.

Well, getting ready for Blazer Bash...a little progress.

I'm installing a used lift kit I picked up pretty cheap. I think it's 3" springs, rear blocks (for now) that are definitely 3".

Front shackle hangers were pretty messed up, one side the bolt was frozen inside the bushing and sheared on both sides, the driver's side was just froze up solid. I ordered new upper shackle hangers from DIY4x4 plus some greasable bolts.

I did the two hole-saw thing on the passenger side, but after bolting up the new upper hanger I realized it didn't actually need much clearancing to get it to fit. The Driver's side I used a rotary drum sander on a die grinder...4 minute job and all was good.

I also spent a little while today making some shackles. I had the material and a bit of time so I figured "why not".

I still have a few issues to finish with up front, then it should be comparitively quick to install the rear blocks and the 12 bolt.

Sits a little "ass low" right now...:haha:

That 10 bolt is never going to last. :doah::haha:

So many haters! :doah:

Rene can't win.....if he goes 1-Ton he'll get crap for not keeping it simple, if he doesn't he'll get crap for leaving weak-links in the truck.

Maybe you should just focus on a nice pine tree air freshener swap, and maybe a "Fear This" windshield sticker if you still have time left over.

:D

I think we should just let him have his own fun with it.

you know how one thing leads to another, and just doesn't stop.

I hear yah man..a "Fear This" sticker along with a set of "Truck balls" dangling from his rear hitch. Keep it simple..:D

nah, the balls would give him the temptation to build a bad-a bumper from which to dangle them... :D

LOL were just giving him **** because we ALL knew the " keep it simple" approach never lasts for any of us!!

I honestly had my money on Rene being able to hold to the plan. It just shows how bad this crack is:haha:

As far as stickers mods go, I say go with TapOut or don't bother:pimp1:

I've always been partial to this sticker that I saw after visiting Rene one time. I thought it would be a classic fit for his projects...
