'90 K5 "Project Sanity" Sold 7/5/2018

Ouch. I hear you. Doing a bit of that now myself.

Yeah...about 25 miles or so. :D

I might just have spoke too soon. Just had a third interview for a job in Edmonton. I should hear back by mid next week...

Could be moving ~900 miles north east.

There is real opportunity at this job if I get it, and Edmonton has a much lower cost of living. I grew up there, so not many surprises about the place for me. It has been 35+ years since I lived there though.

Hope you get the job in Edmonton!

I don`t know about the cost of living being way cheeper than BC... It definatly used to be that way.

But there is certanitly a lot of job oportunitys here.

I would have a hard time moving back to BC, I grew up there so did my wife and most of our family still lives there, it is just to busy for us out there. The citys in Alberta are busy too but at least you can get out of town and away from the masses quite eazy.

If you don`t mind the cold it is a great place to live.

Good luck!

rut roh...! Hey good luck Rene'!

Good luck, and hope everything is getting better for you.

Wow I haven't been keeping up on this..... Damn brother man. I hope it does work for you. Nisku and oilfield welding fabrication go hand in hand.

If you want a rotational gig that pays more money than you know what to do with. Apply to the oilsand producers for a camp job. Working there for a couple seasons now, the expansion on the go is to triple output in 10 years. Finish the 12 billion dollar Voyager upgrader project. Open new mines. It's rediculous really. Gonna need manpower for decades.

It's a job at Waste Management in Edmonton driving a front end truck like I do here. More upside and opportunity than here though. I should hear something by the middle of the week...

Yup, kinda getting used not having all sorts of various injuries at any given point, not looking like a coal miner by day's end, not seeing anything but the inside of a shop all day etc etc etc.

Good to know there are other income possibilities for me up there though. :waytogo:

...and back to the top with updates.

Most probably know, but I got the job at Waste Management, we sold our house in Surrey BC and bought another here in Edmonton. I've been here since late April, and got my family here in the middle of June. It's been pretty hectic this summer, especially trying to get everything done while working 55-65 hours a week.

As for the Blazer, it's eventual fate was undetermined for quite a while. That recently changed. Due to some BS financing issues (a long story I won't bore you guys with) I ended up giving that 2010 Ram pick-up back, getting my deposit refunded and walked away from it. No harm, no foul, no hit on my credit or anything like that. Call it a 5 week test drive.

That still left me with a DD situation. My current 6.2 pick-up IMO isn't suitable for the winters here. At some time I'm sure it was, Paul and Kim drove it year round in Canmore. I know how bitchy it is in the cold now though and am not prepared to fight it every morning. I decided to just buy something with the deposit money I got back when I turned in the Dodge. I kept running into older 4x4's, including a few square body pick-ups. Nothing jumped out at me though, and after a long BS with my wife I decided to put that money into the 90 Blazer. I already know it's issues, the majority of the rust is repaired, and I already owned it.

So, today I pulled the trigger on one of it's major issues, the exhaust. At the beginning of this thread I cobbled the exhaust together to get me by for a while. That "while" had come and gone and it was sounding horrible.

So I bought Hedman 69830 Elite's and a pair of Flowmaster Super 44's in a three inch flavor. It won't be fast, but it'll sound great.

Headers and mufflers come in on Tuesday, today I'm cutting off the old junk.

The obstacle I need to overcome is the inspection it has to pass in order for me to insure and drive this truck here. No emissions testing here, but the inspection might require a cat. I'm not above looking for a shady inspector, the whole inspection is a fuvked up cash grab anyways.

I have a plan if I need a cat to pass.

The rest of the list is basic stuff, weld in the driver's side rocker panel, and go through the front end. DLE's, TRE's, ball joints and new u-joints. I may need to get rid of the rear blocks and do a shackle flip. I want to eventually, but was hoping that might wait a while.

So that's the update, I'll add some pics as I make progress and parts come in.
