'90 K5 - The Nevada Blazer [Post 1437: School me on alternators)

Cool! I'll try that. Thanks. I was thinking about graphite, but didn't know if it would be best for an automotive application or not.

Works great but be warned, it's a bitch to get off the paint.

When I got Big Ugly the door locks hadn't been used by the military in eons and it had at least one coat of CARC paint over and probably in the locks. They hardly worked.
Sprayed some of that in, stuck the key in and turned it back and forth a bunch and very quickly they freed up and worked great for the next 4 years.

Well, I scored a free topper with slider windows. I'm picking it up tomorrow. :woot: Depending on which topper is in better condition, I'll either keep the new topper or swap the windows in. I'm stoked! I'm suspecting my current topper is in nicer shape simply because the donor top is from 1978.

Might use the remaining topper as a means to fabricating the lumber rack I want to build.

Also, the deal has been completed for the Dana 60 front, and I have gears waiting for me at the post office that I need to pick up. I need to get an install kit for the gears, plus gears and install kit for my 14BFF. I have a list of miscellaneous crap I still need to acquire before the swap, which bums me out a bit because I was hoping to do the swap in January when I have a month off school, but don't think the truck budget will work for it.

Today we went out and nabbed a Christmas tree. Good times. Couple fun poser shots. :)

Here's how I attached the trees to my truck (I picked up a 15 footer for the church in addition to the one pictured above.)

I made some loops with rope, popped the topper and put the loops through, then ran the topper bolts down through the loops and snugged it down. Ratchet strapped the trees down. Would be nice to have the lumber rack that I intend to build already, but this was a fine alternative. :)

Tried any graphite lube for the door lock?

NAPA sells a small spray can of graphite door lube that I swear by. Works great for old gummed up locks and one spray before winter keeps them from freezing up from the outside.

So I tried lubing the lock to no avail. Door still has trouble unlocking. Something must be sticking inside the door. Guess I'll have to pull the door panel off and get after it. :( Bummer. I suppose I might need to add the relay mod to the window motor while I'm in there.

I saw the pics of your truck bringing home your tree in your thread tonite too. :) Made me think to post mine. ;)

I think you should take that Blazer on some "Jeep" trails, and see how it does.

Great day of wheelin.

Super great day of wheelin w/ CK5er "alexsdad." We cruised up to Steve's Loop which is right close to Pyramid Lake, NV. The scenery was incredible, and the trail was great. It was a really challenging trail for a stock truck, and it pushed both my driving skill and my truck to its limits. I came out nearly unscathed with very little noticeable body damage. Alexsdad came out great, but he does have a rear locker, lift and 37" tires. You'll notice in the pics that he's got a pretty well built machine.

After getting into the trailhead, you cruise out through the desert a small distance before you drop into the canyon. The terrain is pretty incredible.

My cute wife drinking some Hot Chocolate in the 25* weather. Brrr...

Looking back on part of the trail. This was during our initial walk of the trail to get the lay of the land, as you'll see the trucks going through later.

Steves Loop-4 by colbyjstephens, on Flickr

Gnarly mud-ice on the trail. Pretty cool stuff!

Steves Loop-5 by colbyjstephens, on Flickr

Getting into the rocks. It was certainly a bit tricky with my stock truck going through here. Much appreciation to alexsdad for his patience and quality spotting. Also, my wife took almost all of the pics of my truck driving, I took the pics of alexsdad.

Coming up the first big obstacle. I got hung up in two places, this was the first of the two.

Giving the rock a little smooch.

Damn close to a high center situation, but we ultimately made it OK.

It should be noted that this is actually a very steep part of trail. Hard to tell from the pics though. This pic gives an idea of the steepness if you consider how close the camera is to the truck and how high the rocks climb.

A little stock articulation.

Making it look like no big deal:

Having completed the first obstacle, we approach the second.

Steves Loop-33 by colbyjstephens, on Flickr

This is the second and last real obstacle on the trail. I got hung up here for quite a while, and unfortunately had to do lots of strategic rock stacking. This trail is beyond the capabilities of a stock Blazer, but a mildly modified one would do fine.

Unfortunately, it took me so long to get through that last obstacle that all the good photo light was gone when alexsdad went through the last real obstacle.

Driver's front tire a foot and a half off the ground! :woot:

Steves Loop-47 by colbyjstephens, on Flickr

Gnarly terrain. Those formations are much much larger than human scale.

Gorgeous red rock. Here I'm telling alexsdad that I somehow blew my CB fuse. :doah:

This was a "Jeep" only trail, that even gives them trouble. This Blazer did great, with open diffs and dragging the frame rails, pumpkins, driveline, all the skid plates, front and rear bumpers. It just kept going..

I should hit you up and go on these trails. Been 6 years since I went on a trail.:waytogo:

that is a really cool trail and scenery...I need to make it up there in my truck. Looks like your truck is pretty capable in stock form.
