'90 K5 - The Nevada Blazer [Post 1437: School me on alternators)

Today I pulled my front driveline out again to double check all the clearancing I've done. I found one flange/ear/whatever on the driveshaft side of the CV that was making contact. Now, after clearancing it, I am hoping I'm good to go.

I measured the driveshaft angle at level ride height. I'm sitting right around 16* . I measured it at full articulation on a table, and it came in around 38*. I think I should be good now. I sure hope so, anyway.

Here's an unfortunately phallic image of my d-shaft clamped to a table for reference to it's max angle.

Hey colby,
did you measure the angle with it like this or did you turn it to make sure you can get that angle a full 360 degrees?
And it looks like you will be needing to put it back on tonight, you'll need the K5 tomorrow.
We'll see you there, still trying to see if my wife and kid will come or just me.:thumb:

Yeah, we're definitely taking the K5. :D Kinda glad about it - nice to use the truck for what it's for: 4x4. Wouldn't have bothered to fix the d-shaft today if it weren't for that drive over the pass tomorrow.

Glad you'll be there. :) Hope your family can come.

Small update today. It's Spring Break, so I've got a few irons in the fire with the truck project. First, I'm going to get my lumber rack built. Second, I intend to get the bump stops installed on the front. It would be nice to get the rears done too, but that's unlikely.

Had an unfortunate surprise on Friday night. Someone broke into my truck and stole my stereo. They smashed the passenger slider window and it seems they crawled in through that window because there was a muddy foot print on my rear seat.

As sucky as that is, it was as painless as possible, though. I had a spare passenger side window from when this top originally had solid windows, so I quickly threw that one in there, as I had intended to drive the truck over a snowy pass that day. I didn't end up making the trip in the truck, though. But, at least I could deal with that problem quickly. The stereo wasn't worth more than about $20 or so, so not really a big deal. I had intended on pulling it this week to find the wiring problem that's shorting out my horn fuse anyway... :D Besides, I've been wanting to rewire the previous owner's crappy modifications so that they're done properly. Also, they didn't take any of my tools - and I had about $800 worth of tools back there. It had snowed almost all night, but somehow it didn't get in my truck with the broken window. :dunno:

Person went out the passenger door, as it was unlocked, but the driver's door wasn't.

Anyway, then we went over the pass in the car since the road wasn't bad enough to justify the truck. Found this gem in Roseville, CA (essentially Sacramento):

:haha:

Yesterday I spent $60 and bought another hard top for my truck so I could take the slider windows out of it. Now I've got 3 slider windows and one solid window, so I've got spares in case of a future break in. :doah:

Today I picked up a nice locking tool chest for the truck. It's dimensions are something like 48"x20x20. I'm going to bolt it to the floor.

Bummer about the window. I have the same style box on the back of my k10. It's kinda big to just toss stuff in there, it gets piled up and is a pain to dig through but I found those plastic milk crates nobody is supposed to have but every does fit perfect.
I keep one in there with all my fluids so they don't get smushed and bust open.

Yeah, I need to pick up some organizing boxes for sure. I want the fluids in a durable container so, like you said, they don't burst and leak all over stuff. I also want it to remain clean enough that I can stick valuable stuff in there when I've got the top off or have to leave valuables over night. I've got a milk crate or two, that might help a lot. I was thinking a square 5 gallon bucket for the fluids.

thats how they got out.

Yep. :D :haha:

Yep. :D :haha:

I have an over the rail box on my silverado. I used to use tool boxes but they take up to much space and organization was terrible. Now I use tool bags and put like items in each bag. I labeled each bag with a sharpie. Much easier to find stuff now.

And X2 on the bucket for fluids. I would think a bucket might be best in the off chance one busts. Then it won't get all over everything else.

Love the rig by the way. :waytogo:

Are you saying you have over-the-rail boxes for your Silverado Blazer, or pick up? The box really does take up a lot of space, but I'm actually pleasantly surprised with how much room is still back there. Enough for all my backpacking/camping equipment anyway. Plus, there's still plenty of room in the box.

I have a standard truck box on my 05 crewcab.

Ah, gotchya. That makes more sense. I was trying to imagine the boxes you were using, because I figured bed rail boxes wouldn't fit with the hard top on. :D

Bummer about the breakin.

Not that it would have helped much, but i do get some peace of mind from my alarm system.

I have a remote start audiovox prestige unit, and love it. $70 and about 6-8 hrs of wiring time, and its been great. Keyless entry, remote start, alarm, even have my headlights wired up on a timer from an extra button.

No, won't stop a theif, but the flashing light might motivate them to move onto the next truck. The blinker on this one is BRIGHT blue, and i mounted it in the hole from the PO's alarm RIGHT in the middle of the dash, between the speedo and gas gauge.

Just food for thought now that you have a Power lock rig...

$70? That's cool. That would bring an extra 10 bling points to my truck too! :D Seriously, that is pretty cool, and not so pricey.

And in the cold.....the remote start with the heater left on freaking rocks.

Plus, the truck is so much happier to get to warm up when its really cold (haha, CA cold) out.

This is the most comparable one to what i got.

Hope you are good at wiring! And order some relays, i think you need to wire in external ones for the door locks on this system

I can't believe people still steal radios. You can get a decent receiver for $100.

As long as pawn shops are still in the area they will. That stucks about the break in colby. I have been a victim as well, and same thing as your break in. My radio was like 6 years old and didn't even have a detachable face. Our old trucks are easy to get into and most of the time do not have an alarm.

Wonder if I could just rig that puppy up to my tool box? :D

The Alarm? It comes with a hood switch, that you could easily use ( or get another) to hook up to the toolbox.

I HATE having a hood switch, i ripped mine out. What are they going to steal under my hood? :haha:

And with a hood switch, i can't start the motor remotely while sitting under the hood trying to fix things....
