'90 K5 - The Nevada Blazer [Post 1437: School me on alternators)

Thanks. :D I'm going wheeling this Saturday with "alexsdad," and intend to get myself well flexed out to check for my preparedness for the Rubicon. So, they may see some use (though I hope not!). My thought on sliders, at least for this nice truck, is that they're there as a last-resort protection, not as an item to be used frequently.

When I finish mine () thats my plan too. Trucks too nice to beat the sheet metal to hell. :waytogo:

With precise driving, one can build these trucks to handle some pretty extreme terrain without destroying the truck!

Great job colby. I always enjoy seeing your fabbin ideas. For example I really love the roof rack and the pieces that come down the sides and corners. Instead of just a basket that sits on top. Way cool :thumb:

I went wheelin with "alexsdad" and another friend this last weekend. We went to a place called The Moon Rocks. It's a play area with really interesting stones. I forgot my camera, so I only had my crappy cell. Here's a couple pics.

Kinda like a miniature white Moab. However, it's so small that it's basically just a play area, which isn't really my kind of wheeling. I like trail rides, and pretty quickly I get bored of driving over stuff for the sake of driving over stuff. This was a good opportunity to flex out the truck and make sure everything is in order for the Rubicon this weekend. :woot: My tires rub the fenders a bit, but I plan to fix that by putting in some bump stops. Should make traction better that way too. I won't be getting to that before Sunday, though, when we leave for the Rubicon.

Russell and all of his buddies from Canada arrived at my place yesterday. They're on a race team for a 550 mile desert race from Vegas to Reno that happens on Friday/Saturday. They all trailered their wheelin rigs down so that they could drive the Rubicon with us this coming week, and they've left them at my place. So, I have quite the collection of 4x4s and trailers right now! :D 2 Jeeps, 1 Toyota, 1 Dodge tow rig, 2 goose neck trailers, and 2 regular trailers. :haha: We've been blessed with plenty of space to park all that stuff, so it worked out well. Everyone has his tow rig with him for the Vegas trip, as they follow the race truck back north. We'll head out Sunday afternoon.

In addition, alexsdad is going to join us, and perhaps another Jeep friend of mine. If the Jeep friend doesn't go, there will be nobody in our group who has driven the Rubicon before, but from what I understand it's quite an easy trail to follow because it's so well marked. I'm stoked!

Pics. or it didn't happen.:D

I took a photo of the collection, but I never asked the owners if they mind if I were to post a pic of their stuff online. Since studying photography in my undergrad work, I have become ultra sensitive to that sort of thing. :wink1: I'll talk to them about this stuff when we run the Rubicon - because I'm definitely posting pics of that!

I still don't know if I will make it back in time, but if sp I would gp if there is seat empty.
I have been thru the Rubicon trail both with K5 and with a dirt bike.
The camping trip got canceled so I am working this week.

i'm sure this goes without saying Colby, but take lots of pictures from the 'con. and take notes of any skinny places where a full size would be tight. wanna see what i'm getting into for when i go.

please and thank you.

I will definitely do it. I may even do a little picture map to show the trail that way too.

Have fun up there Colby! I am bummed I wont be able to make it, moving/crazy work schedule put a huge dent in the garage time

Any info on that flatbed dodge? :pimp:
The Dodge is a project that my friend had just gotten running - though it's not running well yet. We actually spent about half our time on Saturday trying to get his engine started. I believe it's a 360 engine on propane, manual trans. It has a dually dana 60 in front and a single rear wheel 8 lug rear end. He cut a large section of the frame out of the middle to shorten it, and then attached that utility bed to it. I think he has no lift, but heavily cut out fenders. It has open diffs, but he did pretty good at crawling inspite of spinning the wheels a couple times.

I'm feeling ya on this one. I always hesitate to post any pics of valuable items and their locations, especially if they are vulnerable to theft. I think about SweetK30 a few years back getting his brand new wheels and tires stolen from behind his shop and I can't help but wonder if someone was trolling this forum and saw his truck on here and realized they knew where his shop was and decided to go relieve him of his posessions.

Also I'm always hearing about people posting on Facebook that they're going on vacation for a week and then come home to find their house burglarized by one of their "friends" that read their post. So when someone "likes your staus", it may mean they're coming to rob you later on. I don't know. My wife thinks I'm paranoid, but I have had my house burlarized in the past and now I think about stuff like that.

Oh well. Enjoy your trip! :D

That is why I will never have a facebook account, and why I never put too much details about where I go until after I go and come back.
Unless it's work and my wife is home then that is different.
