'90 K5 - The Nevada Blazer [Post 1437: School me on alternators)

Awesome! I haven't heard anything from them yet, but I imagine they had as great of a time as I did last year!

Making me super jealous... Lets put together a 2014 trip, and I'll be there! Also going to hit up Blazer Bash again next year as well. Perhaps lines things up so we can go run the Rubicon then head straight over to Moab for BB in an awesome convoy? lol!

Today I put a new trans mount in there. Easy job. Also replaced the crossmember-to-frame nuts with stover nuts so that they'll never rattle loose. I still need to get a new coupler fitting for my power steering remote reservoir, as the threads cut thru the rubber on the Rubicon. I'm going to pick up a plastic fitting today, and I may get it installed too. We'll see.

So, can you see what my problem was? :D

I haven't done much at all with or to the truck recently, aside from using it to haul some stuff. However, I did pass smog again this year. I was watching for visible smoke and didn't see any during the test, which surprised me significantly. However, I may have been aided by the massive forest fire in Yosemite because the smoke in the air here is unbelievable! You can't hardly see anything, so that might have masked some of my problem. :dunno:

Anyway: :woot:

The smoke is so bad here right now, that at most times throughout the day you can look at the sun without sunglasses and it doesn't even leave a ghost-image in your eye after the fact. At morning/dusk it's a solid red ball. The moon looks post-apocalyptic.

Gnarly stuff.

That is crazy stuff.

Could make some sweet pictures with your photography skills.

I keep thinking, "hey, it would be a great project to do a series of photos of this." Then I think, "well, it's been going on a long time and it'll probably be out soon, so I won't get a full series." Then I think, "Damn, this fire just keeps on going."

:doah:

I've been looking at coverage of that fire and it looks crazy. I remember a few years ago when there was a gigantic fire in the Okefenokee Swamp in GA about 80 miles from my parents house and the smoke got in their house so bad they could hardly stand it. I can't believe how dry it is out there. We've had over 55" of rain this year so far vs. our normal 24" or so.

Yes, I think this fire is pretty incredible too. We're 150 miles from the fire as the crow flies, but strangely we're getting the brunt of the smoke. I think the Lake Tahoe Basin is just as bad, but that's basically the same place as here. Air streams are weird.

It worked out really well. If you don't need perfection, I'd say go for it. If you need perfection, I'd say go for it and use that as a starting point. You can tell that the door is not perfectly straight, but it's nearly perfect again.

Tell us more about this basketball door repair. Did you put a deflated B-ball inside the door cavity and inflate it to get out the dents or what? More information please.

"We want more. We want more."

Not much to tell, really. I took the door trim off, stuffed a deflated soccer ball down there and pumped it up. Pics:

Fixed! The only place you can still see the problem is down on the lower trim - there's a small imperfection. Not acceptable for a show truck, but for my work/wheel rig it is fine.

One thing to be aware of is that you need the non-dent side of whatever panel you're working on to be more rigid than the dent side. Pay attention to the good side to make sure you don't dent it by pushing it out the reverse. :D

Awesome. We can always count on you to take pictures of everything you do. :waytogo:

Oh and by the way, how did you get the soccer ball back out?

I deflated it. I did consider leaving it, tho, because it was below the window regulator. :haha:

Good call! I could patent a square body air bag retro fit! Hook them all up to a CO2 bottle and you're good to go. Plus, the manual valving option doubles as a post-trail body fix kit....

If you lobbied the right people, you could make it a law in at least CA. If you were the exclusive supplier of them, you could be rolling in the dough. Think about it. You could be sitting on a gold mine here. $$$

Good tip! To my dent, the creased area was lower than the ball could go due to the ball hitting the bottom of the inside of the door combined with having used a round ball that essentially put the pushing force higher up. I think I could've had even better results with a football.

Ryoken body work includes all kinds of hammer/dollies/etc.
Colby body work includes various sporting balls and a bike pump...
