91 K5 -Procrastination Build - bikini top!

Nice start! Looks good.

I know you are like me & take a long time to get your build done. Don't do like I did & not prime that cage before it rusts. Mine got rusty before I painted it & it was no fun prepping it for paint.

I like how the A pillar downtubes on the cage go through the dash instead of around it. Are you gonna put the original dash pad back on after its all done?

Scott

Yeah, I plan on reinstalling the original dash and gauges for now. At some point I'd like to hack it all out and build some sort of flat panel type dash but that's just too much $$ right now while I'm trying to put the rest of it together.

It's about time John. I like that cage though.:wink1: Are you going to reinstall the interior trim with the headliner? I can't remember if you were building strictly for the mud or what.

Let me know if there's anything I can send Justin on over to do.:haha:

Realistically the spring, between Christmas and work December is a wash so I wont get a lot done on the weekends. I hope to have the motor finished & running by Christmas so after that it should move along good.

:doah::haha:

Cage looks good John.:waytogo:

I'm going to leave the headliner and trim out. I pulled it to keep from burning it while welding the cage and now it looks like too much of a PITA to put back.

It's not really purpose built although it does lean towards trail riding over mud. I'd prefer to build a monster motor mud truck but there's just not many places to go around here anymore. I figured I needed something I could take to Gray Rock, etc if I wanted to continue to wheel.

Can't wait to see it when the dash and gauges are back together.

I know you have prolly told me & said it on the forums too, but what engine/trans/t-case you going with again?

A mild 454 (carb'd @ 1st but I have a complete tbi system for later), 4spd with McLeod dual disc clutch and a Doubler. I want a Lomax bad but that'll have to wait til next year. Underneath is 5.86's (rear spool / front Detroit) and H1's w/ 42's.

:doah: I'm afraid of the tbi. :doah: It's used and I'm tbi illiterate so I'm scared I'll never figure out how to make it run. :rotfl:

Just wanted to show off a new part, my Diy4x winch mount. :woot: It's made for an 8274 and when mounted the winch will be recessed into the grille for better approach angle. You'd have to see it to appreciate the quality of workmanship, Kert really went beyond what I expected. I'll try to get it mounted this weekend for more pics.

That winch mount looks awsome, I cant wait to see it all mounted up

I just noticed this build, Keep up the good work

The jury is still out on that... At the very least I'll put a stinger on it but it would be easy to use it as a platform to build a bumper. I probably wont make my mind up until I see it with just a stinger.

At some point I'm going to get Kert to build another for the rear. these box type mounts are perfect for tucking a winch in tight to the body.

Sorry about the pics Scott, I've had so much trouble loading pics lately I started using Photobucket.

How far back in the grill are you going? Are you running an A/C condenser?

Does it lift the winch too, move it up at all?

It looks like I could take the center section from my Warn bumper and do something similiar.
