91 K5 -Procrastination Build - bikini top!

The winch is roughly 8.5" thick, this mount should put almost half back in the grille. It should be pushed back within an inch of the core support, I'll also have to modify the hood latch support to clear the winch. It doesn't raise the winch any more than necessary. It should end up with the lower mounting bolts around the middle of the frame rail.

You're right it is a lot like a Warn mount so you could probably mod yours similarly. I gave Tom my mount off the old short bed because at the time I had bought some DPI bumpers.

Oh, no a/c condensor - those parts are long since gone.

That was the plan but Christmas is all in the way. :doah: I've still got a couple of small things to buy for the motor and then poop some money to get the starter rebuilt. I doubt I'll get anything done on it before the 25th but hopefully things will free up to work on it at the end of the month.

Can't wait to see the winch mount bolted up! I'm thinking about that for my truck

Sheesh, I just brought my 8274 down to Kert's a couple weeks ago and now I see the pictures of the mount already in your possession. :haha:

im bringing this back to the top, time for an update! :) have you been able to get any more work done to it? im sending you a pm as well haha

I haven't done much to it in the last month due to some issues with my grandmother.

I did spend the afternoon today cutting my mag runflats. This was not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. I knew the material would be easy to cut but due to the ribbing cast in them I thought it would be a very bumpy ride to say the least. Long story short, it was easy. I've run out of daylight and my tires are in storage so it'll be next weekend before I can mount them and bolt them on the truck for pics.

Btw, for any of you 4spd fellas I've run into this problem if anyone has any input - http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=226734

Another great looking piece by DIYx4!!! Let's see that thing mounted!!

Well, I managed to do some more work... I cut down the mag runflats and mounted my tires. Here are some pics, for the record they're unmodified H1's with 42" TSL's

The old 5 gal bucket trick for mounting -

The run flats cut down (not nearly as big of a pita as I thought it'd be)

I ran out of daylight so here's a crappy nighttime pic (thanks to "NewUser" for brightening it up for me)

I'll get some better pics (with all 4 tires :D ) next weekend.

Yeah, I've got lots-o-cuttin to do but I just couldn't stand it! I wanted to see what it'd look like. :rotfl: I have to admit, it's taller that I thought it'd be. :doah:

That looks awesome john! Do you think you could get a side shot showing the approach angle? Also what did you use to cut down the runflats?

Thanks guys.

I used a sawzall with a wood cutting blade (10 tpi, I think it was) to cut the runflats. The hardest part was figuring out how to hold them while I cut. The best way for me was to punch a hole with a holesaw (for a starting point) and then put the rim & runflat on a 5 gal bucket while my wife rotated the runflat as I held the saw. Everything else I tried left me chasing the runflat while it flopped around loose or tried to turn on the rim when I was by myself.

I used a 4" grinder with a flapper disc to finish out the cut runflat. One thing I never noticed in any write up with that the first rib next to the bolts gets in the way of a ratchet/socket. If I did it again I would take that rib down flush so it wouldn't be in the way at all.

I'll get some good pics next weekend with all 4 tires. When I tried to air up the 4th tire I realized I had a leak so I guess I pinched an o-ring. :dunno: It was already dark so I quit and put everything up.

Oh, the aproach angle pretty good but could be better. I'd like to move the B-52's to the forward position and gain another inch but the winch mount is in the way.

looks great man. its gona be semi tall regardless...your runin 42's for cryin out loud haha.
