91 K5 -Procrastination Build - bikini top!

Got the tires mounted up and on the K5 today. Not much new just wanted to post pics. It looks like there's a pretty good difference in height front to rear so I'll have to make some adjustments at some point.

I will say I'm not liking the rear axle position. The more I look at it, it just looks awkward. I may flip the rear springs back around, haven't decided yet.

I REALLY like the rear axle location - just trim a nice tangent off of that back fender and you're good to go! Looks great!

looks sweet. I got a few of my 43s mounted today too. Can't wait to get mine on. Are you running chromo shafts or anything?

Nothing real jazzy on axles, stock Spicer's up front with 35 spline stubs & Dutchman 1541 axles in the rear (custom lengthfor narrowed housing).

If you'll look closely at the first pic you can see a dark line about 3" outside the stock wheel opening. The line is actually a cut, I managed to cut the outer skin but ran out of daylight before I finished the inner wall so it's still connected.

As for the tubs, I don't know if there'll be any trouble yet. I haven't pulled the hoist out yet to check the travel.

looking good there buddy! keep it up!! It's looking more and more like a real truck instead of a pile of parts!

Looks good man! Now lets see it move under it's own power... come on... get busy... you act like you have a job or something, a wife and kids, etc... Lol... Lets go wheelin' man get busy!!!

Wow, I just realized I hadn't posted in this thread for a year. :eek1: hmmm... what are the signs that you're really dragging your feet on a build? :doah:

Well, it's still not running but it is closer, I've done a fair amount of junk you don't see; brake plumbing & bleeding, fuel plumbing, trying to figure out what I'm going to do with the instrument cluster, diesel radiator, blah, blah, blah...

Some of the things you can see are -

Different rear springs; initially I had 4" lift springs on it but it was about 2.5" too tall so I swapped in some 8 leaf stockers and lost 2" so it's almost level now (hopefully it will settle some otherwise I'll add 1/2" to the front). My shackle angle improved a lot so that's a plus.

I also installed the springs back in the stock orientation so the axle is only shifted 1" back (Zero Rate). The truth is that while I loved the short departure angle I just hated the look of where the axle was located when the springs were backwards. It's a personal thing, I just didn't like the look.

Oh, I also finished trimming the rear wheel openings.

Rear driveshaft; not much of an accomplishment but it is a good lesson - Never wait 4 years to put a puzzle back together. I looked all thru my garage several times but never did find my 1410 yoke for the rear of the 205. Easy enough, one call to H.A.D. and I have a yoke but it was $100 wasted out of an already tight budget. Over the last couple of years I've spent a lot of extra $$ on stuff I know I have but simply can't find. :doah:

XJ steering shaft; this one I really like. Of course, I haven't driven the truck but I can tell a difference when I move the truck around, a lot tighter feeling. With the stock rag joint I was always expecting to tear it while muscling it around the yard, no worries anymore. The upgrade went fairly smooth and thanks to u-pull-it yards it was dirt cheap too.

That's all I've got tonight. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I'll have some pics of the tach cluster installed and the radiator (extra wide diesel version thanks to tvguy :thumb: )

glad to see it coming along, im trying real hard to have mine ready for 4th of july! keep up the good work!

Good deal! I may have to shoot for the 4th as well. Are you going somewhere or shooting for an event?

I tell ya, between you and Chris in Gulfport (not4show) y'all are shaming me into getting off the couch. :doah: I keeping seeing / hearing about how far along you both are and I'm starting to feeling the heat. :rotfl:

I have some buddies that went to bogs and boulders and they called me from there talking about how great of a time they were having(while I was at work). Anyway, I said my truck should be ready to take up there sometime in july. next thing I know they have scheduled a get together for the 4th! so right now i have the front tore down working on the ARB install, saving money trying to get the stuff for the rear ordered and also decide on which bumper I really want.

its gonna be tight but I should be close by then!

Oh, and if you get yours ready, we can bring it too!

Sweet, July 4th it is! Obviously, I'm going to have to step up my work ethic to something more aggressive than 4 hrs a weekend. :D

Post up some pics of that ARB install, really cool stuff! Are you getting one for the rear too?

thinking I will give the yukon grizzly locker a shot, for the 14bolt. havent heard anything bad but havent heard much at all about it. its a lilttle cheaper and supposedly stronger according to a "salesman"@ randy's so we will see. Just havent had much time off lately to get anything done, hopefully next week will be a better week.

Glad to see progress John. The little nickle and dime time consuming junk. Makes everything come together.

Travis you have a pm.

July 4th sounds like fun.

Sounds like we need to page Rob to this thread.

Just imagine a meet and greet with more than one K5!!!!:haha:

wanna sell one of your 43s? :D
I would like to get a spare but apparently that's not going to happen with interco. Might get a 42 rocker spare and that be my next tire.

You've seen this thread, I've got to roll them around for another 6 mo to a year before I change tires again. :D Will you be going to the Rocker because you don't like the Interco / SX availability or is it something about the performance of the tire itself?

availability.....
they work good, but i had to run them at 4-3psi before they really started working.
