91 K5 -Procrastination Build - bikini top!

Yeah, that was something that Carl J stressed when I ordered my kit from him, no 2 housings are the same - some need a lot of grinding and some may not need hardly any.

Did you figure out what tie rod you have? 1.5"? Does the tie rod clear the cover ok when turning? I've still got to buy a cover somewhere but I'm worried about clearing the tie rod.

Just got around to seeing this

I just had to grind out the ruffstuff cover about an 1/8" in three spots, no clearance issues

Nothing at the moment. I had hernia surgery the first of November so I couldn't do anything for a little over 4 weeks. I'm over it now but, naturally, the focus is on Christmas.

Plans are to crank the new motor the weekend before New Years. My 2 year old Optima appears to be junk so I've got to find a battery that will fit my Artec Optima specific battery box. I'll ride around next week with a tape measure and find one somewhere.

Once it's running and I put a few miles on it I'll pull the front axle to do the Jana76 upgrade.

well I hope that you are recovering good after surgery. I look forward to your updates. I am still piecing together my 454 (that you helped me with on Pirate back around june of this year). Down to selecting an intake and headers, but your k5 has always been an inspiration! Best of luck!

Thanks, you're too kind my friend! As slow as I work I didn't think anyone was still watching. :doah: :rotfl:

I've got a little update, SHE RUNS! :woot: After sitting forever TARussell and I finally worked on it and got 'er fired off. I haven't driven it yet but it's had about 30 minutes of break in time running in the driveway. It runs really good and feels pretty strong, not as much lope to the cam as I hoped for but that's ok.

I'm going to try and get a quick video of it running tomorrow, I ran out of daylight today.

Pay no attention to the sloppy wiring, battery cables and plug wires. Once I'm sure my rewiring job doesn't burn the truck down I'll wrap and clamp everything up nice and tidy. :D

Bout time! Good job man! Thats exciting! My own little two cents, the fuel line really takes away from the over all look. Everything looks new and then the fuel line looks like it was a carry over from a previous project.

Are you talking about the blue hose? I agree it looks faded but it's brand new Push Lock brand hose. :doah:I've been wanting to change that fuel line somehow, all those fittings piled up together grates on me.

Yep. Mostly just the fittings look old. Really wasnt trying to knock you! Im super excited for you to have it running again!

No, I appreciate the comment! I see what you're saying and agree. You are right, the hose is new but I've been using those fittings for a looooong time (last truck). I spent a fair amount on this motor for what I think are "pretty" parts and don't want to ruin their effect with worn out left overs. I guess it's time to hit the ol Summit catalog. :thumb:

That thing looks sweet. Really like the valve covers on it. Now I wish I would have waited to find the aluminum accessory brackets vs my stamped steel ugly ones.

Could you take a pic of the other side of the motor as well? I wana see how your P/S ressy is ran and how its done and blah blah. I really need one, and Im getting lazy and dont feel like reaching all the way down on mine to check it.

Secret: the polished valve covers, timing cover and air cleaner are all cheap buys from eBay. I think I've got about $150 in all of it together.

454sub, I'll get you a pic when I get home.

150.00 thats gotta be a steal...they look sweet! :waytogo:

I have to limit my Ebay/Craigslist viewing, or I would have a junkyard at my house with a foreclosure sign in front of it. :haha:

Thanks for the additional pics. I have looked all over the local junkyards for it and cant find an "intact" one anywhere. People use a sawzall, torch, and a BFH to remove basically anything to get to what they want.

Well, mine isn't intact either. I've taken an OE resevoir from an 83 K30 and made a bracket to hang it right off the forward end of the master cylinder. I'm also using a typical tear drop resevoir pump, my next step is to find a hose with a couple of 90's to join the 2 together. My reason for this is I'm going to eventually mount a hydro assist ram so I'm trying to raise my overall volume of fluid.

Here's a pic of the left side of the motor -

Photobucket has been kicking my but tonight, I managed to upload a quick video of the sound of the motor but can't seem to get a longer video to upload. I'm using a "new" Flip camera and I think its file size is just too big, I'll have to figure out how to change he settings.

Here's a quicky taken at the tailpipe for sound -

Ahhhhh, thats what Im planning to do when I get a 60 up front. I just cant figure out how the new rezzy connects to the old one, every one I have seen in the yard is missing that piece.
