91 K5 -Procrastination Build - bikini top!

Yeah, I think so. If the B pillar was any taller I doubt a soft top would fit (if I ever got one - $$$). The A and C halos are ~1/2 tube lower than the B so my intent was to run braces straight out with bent outboard ends to maximize height.

I don’t think the cage is short, it’s a Diy4x kit and I’ve never read of anyone having height issues. I don’t recall anyone using a Yukon rear seat with a full cage except @K30Blazer but his kids are younger and smaller so he may not have encountered this yet.

Soft tops on blazers are a bit weird the hoops for the top are the big problem not the overall I interior room.

When your passengers are close to the cage sometimes the best answer is harnesses. Keeps em from bumping around

This! And kerts cage is a one size fits all type of thing. I felt I was way to close in the back of @RivMan DIY4x cage. He is running the same style seats. I believe he wanted to add another 3" through out his cage.

Yeah I get it's a one size fits all and that it's intended to fit inside an enclosed cab, I was just surprised. I had a cage in my old K10 so I was mindful of headroom for the drivers seat but never having had a Blazer I didn't think to check the rear. I guess I just assumed if the front worked then the rear would but forgot about the step up for the rear floor. If I had a top (especially a hard top) I really don't see how the cage could be any taller BUT I don't have one to test fit so that's just an estimation based on the windshield frame height. Without a top if the cage was any taller I think it would look like Herman Munster going down the road.

The rear seats don't have mounting feet, they have "claws" that grab horizontal pins in pockets in the floor (similar to the latch on the original rear bench seat). For moment I thought about the possibility of sinking some of the Yukon pockets in my floor but that would only drop the seats about 1". I'm going to open up the bottom of the seat covers, if the claws can be removed from the seat frame maybe I can figure out a lower profile mount. That would gain about 2"-3".

Rob cut the feet, and latch off of his blazer seat and welded it to a 3rd row tahoe seat I think. Its really slick.

1) for adequate headroom, the front seats will have to be bolted flush to the floor. Disappointing but livable. Makes me feel short like an 8 yr old driving my dads truck.

I felt like that at first after cutting my floor out to drop the seats however I really like it now. Plus there is nothing wrong with a lower center of gravity.

On my truck, the cage does sit low. I'd like to space it up a bit when I have time to mess with it.

On my seat, I chopped up the stock seat frame, removing the hinges and "claw" plate. I removed the stock feet from the 02 Suburban 3rd row (They just unbolted), and welded the stock K5 claw plate to the rear edge of the Suburban frame. Once that was in place, I lifted the front of the seat, and mocked up a crossbrace that allowed me to attach the stock K5 hinges in their stock location. I pulled everything out and finish-welded everything. It works great, and gives me the stock fold / tumble action. I don't know if I ever posted any photos of the completed setup, I'll see if I can dig some up.

Thanks
-Rob

Silly question but do you feel the mod lowered the seat a noticeable amount?

I didn't measure, but the back of the seat sits flush to the floor, and the front is a couple inches off the floor. I never tried to use the seat before the modification.

It's about as low as possible.

My 3rd row is still in the blazer, i mounted it with the stock feet, little round bar things above the floor.

I can stop and take pics and measurments if you want. It sits high tho.

I have a set of the stock mounting bars from a Yukon but they aren't tall enough, I'd need to space them up close to an inch to get the seats to latch on to them without hitting the floor first. I need to eliminate the claws / feet to make it lower. I need the bottom seat cover almost touching the floor.

Trust me when it comes to a cage an inch can be all it takes.

Plus Kert has to build for alot of variables, he can't build a super tight cage for the mere fact of it would take too much tweaking to get to work in some situations, you have to compromise when doing a production cage.

You really need to borrow at least a rear hard top, or have some one take measurements.

Thanks @RivMan I can tell what you did now. My seat(s) is different because it's split and actually 2 seats but I'm sure I can do something similar, just twice. :D

@blazinzuk I'm about to hit up @Kay86K5 build thread since his cage is most similar to what I want.
