91 K5 -Procrastination Build - bikini top!

LOL no, just 3 for me for my cage braces and that's probably more than I'll need. The order was a group buy with @83ChevyK5Blazer, myself and a Ford buddy. most of the DOM is for the Ford guy to build a cage on a new project.

Hopefully, my new notcher will be here today.

It's getting harder and harder to find excuses to procrastinate....

I do have 1 immediate hurdle to deal with, I have my doubler ready to come out (shift rail swap) but my trans jack adapter thingy doesn't fit my HF jack. It never occurred to me that I should check the lifting cup on the jack before buying it, the damn thing doesn't have the typical big (1-1/4"-ish) peg in hole set up it's got a smaller 3/4"-ish screw. :doah: :surepal:

Should’ve hollered at me. I could’ve sent you home with my trans jack and got it back in April. :haha:

For real though, that harbor freight trans jack is awesome and you can probably find a coupon for it so it’s a little over $100, if I remember correctly.

hack the peg off, drill a 3/4" hole and bolt it to the jack.

Crap! That's what I get for harassing you instead of meeting you. LOL Which jack do you have? I was looking the HF stuff but they all seemed to have a bunch of poor reviews about the jack cylinder bleeding and/or not holding pressure.

a bunch of us on here have the 2K pound model and it kicks ass, it's $300+ bucks though. I also had the $100 scissor version for awhile, it handled a dozen or so jobs before I broke it.

A guy at work was just messing with that same issue on a jack he had last night. He modified his adapter for a jack to use it for his rzr and wanted to build another short adapter for it. Ended up being M24-1.5 thread.

I have the 800lb one. I haven’t had any problems out of it.

However, I don’t buy anything from Harbor Freight with the expectations of it lasting a lifetime. With as much as I’ve used it, if it quit today I would feel like I got my money’s worth. Just me

I was surprised at the cost, most at or under $200 are the HF-ish design.

I didn't post this yesterday because an update on my build thread is so rare it might have been considered an April Fools joke. :doah:

So I did some stuff. There's a Southeast meet & greet / wheeling trip coming up this weekend so I've been working on the truck a fair amount (actually a ton when compared to my usual pace). There are several things that don't show in pics like welding the cage and wring but there have been other things.

I finally pulled the 205 and installed the new shift rails! I've really been dreading this because, as everyone knows, it's just a big heavy PITA. The old rails were worn and had marks like they'd been forced too far, I don't remember kicking the shifter in my old truck but it's been a while so who knows. :dunno:

Next was the JB Fab shifter. Nothing real exciting here because I've posted pics of it but after installing it I now wish I'd gone with the longer 72" cables instead of the 60", the 180° loop under the floor is a little tight but the shifters work good. I was surprised to see how close the cables were to the CV on my rear driveshaft, there was only about 1.5" of clearance so I had to make a bracket to hold them up to be sure they never relaxed and layed on the driveshaft. This also made up my mind that a driveline parking brake is never in my future.

Next I built seat brackets for the Silverado / Tahoe seats. Using some 1x2-1/8 tubing and some 1/4 plate I was able to get the rear seats down to 1.25" off the floor, considerably better than the 3"+ using the factory type seat mounts (the taller mounts made roll cage headroom a problem). The front seats are just mounted with square tubing frames, the rear wasn't bad but took a little more work.

The cage is almost fully welded but ran out of gas Sunday so that will be finished tonight. No pics because it looks the same but here's my buddy's TIG in my shop. It's going to stay for a while because he doesn't have a place for it so he can use it at my place now.

Edit: additional tubes / bracing will be added to the cage later but to get it running for this weekend that'll wait.
