91 V1500- "Smokey"- Camping/Hunting Rig

Thanks guys. Going to leave them black for now. If I get bored with it, I'll throw on the white ones or maybe grey. I seem to have a hard time leaving stuff alone for too long:laugh:

No big updates. I did paint the grill and headlight bezels as they were starting to fade a good bit. I noticed one of my bezels is cracked in several places, so i guess I'll order a new one.

Hoping to start on the front bumper soon so I can mount the Warn 8274. I'm going to build one similar to this

Any ideas on what size plate I should use for the front mount part

Fixed the steering issue. I had to adjust the sector shaft to get return to center. I also found one of the draglink ends shot. Replaced it and noticed a big difference in steering.

I think I'm going to order air bags for the rear to get it back level and tighten up the spring rate in the back. I can get a set from sdtrucksprings.com for $289.00 shipped. I would spend more than that on a set of lift springs. I won't be doing any hardcore wheeling with it, so they should be fine. I may try to fabricate some sort of disconnect for them just in case.

I will probably order those this week sometime and get them installed. I'll post some updates on the install.

Update- I ordered the Firestone airbag kit, but it's on factory backorder until June 10th:doah: Oh well, I guess that will have to wait.

I went ahead and installed a new water pump, thermostat, hoses, serpentine belt, and did a good coolant flush. No more leaking water pump:woot:

Finally got warm enough outside to check the AC and is working good. Washed and waxed the beast (damn that's a lot of metal to wax:eek1:)

I need to get working on my bumpers, but have been busy lately. Sorry for the boring update, but wanted to keep record of everything.

Received the airbags the other day. They got here before the original backorder date of June 10th. I hope to put them on this weekend and I'll post some installation pics.

Finally got the airbags on Friday night while the wife and kids were gone.. The install went really smooth. The worst part was drilling the 8 holes in the frame, which isn't that bad. I wasn't sure how the bags were going to affect ride and ride height, but damn this thing rides nice now! Not only did it level out the ass end, but it also fixed the soft rear. The rear was so soft, that it actually made driving unpleasant at times.

Max pressure on the bags is 100psi. I currently have 48psi in them and it seems to be about perfect with no load on the rear. I even hooked up my 17' Basstracker to it, but it didn't budge the rear.

These are pics before I aired them up

I did take some measurements before and after the install to compare ride height.

Pass side rear before

pass side after (48psi)

Drivers side before

Drivers side after (48psi)

So I gained about 2" of lift in the rear with the bags at 48psi. I just measured from the ground up to get a before and after. The drivers side sits a little lower.

I mounted the air valves separate so I could adjust for side to side adjustment if needed. I decided to mount them near the tag and turned out nicely I think.

I do have some minor updates on the build. . Mostly boring stuff, but I like to keep the build up to date. I'm in the HVAC business here in the south, so you can imagine how busy I have been over the summer:doah: I'm hoping to start on the front bumper soon. I have already started to cut some of the metal.

I was able to find a rear matching 3rd row seat locally, so I picked it up.

I also finally had a chance to get the front windows tinted along with the barn door window. Looks a lot better now and stays cooler inside.

I have also been looking on Craigslist for some H2 wheels. I found a pretty good deal on a set locally, so I went ahead and scooped them up. I got 4 wheels and 2 BFG A/T 50% tread for $180. I have a buddy that owns a used car lot and he thinks he has a fairly new set of 315/70R17 BFG's at his shop that he said I could have.

Here is a pic of the wheels/tires just sitting against the Burb. Trying to get an idea on what it is going to look like. I'm really liking it:laugh:

This is a clean burb, I like the look of the H2s as well. I might have to find some if/when i swap my one tons into my burb.

We have a few worktrucks sitting around that have the centers. You can see mine on the background of one of the pics, but it is a GMC. I already took one to see if it would work and what it would look like. Does anybody know if all of the years will work? I'm really liking the black center caps, but not sure which ones will work. Didn't GM go to metric at some point?

And of course my little ballplayer wanted his picture taken with my "Racecar". I think he calls it that because of the exhaust sound.:D

GM went metric in 2010 or 2011 so anywhere up until then, pretty sure they changed rim styles in 08 though and used a different center cap. the chrome center caps that went on the aluminum rims had a smaller outside diameter than the ones for the steel rims (chrome or gray).

A small update. Time has been limited with my son's football season and hunting season. I did finally order my Marathon seat covers and have since installed them. Let me tell you, their customer service is second to none! They are awesome to work with. I went with the light grey. Driver seat has a gear pocket on the front and bow holder on the back. I went with a map pocket on the rear of the passenger seat. Also got the armrest covers. Overall I am very pleased with fit and finish. I think they would fit a little tighter, but the driver seat cushion has lost some of it's "cushion" if you know what I mean.

those look pretty good. Hopefully they're tight enough so they don't walk around on the seat.

They fit good. I just threw them on the other day. I need to finish getting them secured and fitted better. I've driven alittle in them and the seats feel better. I haven't had any issues with them "walking". I think if they were put on some brand new seats they would fit really tight. Obviously seats that are 25 years old, don't quite hold the original shape.

Got bored with the H2's and don't really like the all aluminum look. I decided to paint them and see how it turned out. Im still not sure if I like it or not.
