One of the projects I wanted to do on this truck was make a trailer hitch that was up and out of the way (really only using it for recovery) and basically doubled as a crossmember on the frame. I somewhat copied the Far From Stock roll pan hitch minus the $660 price tag.

Using a hitch I had laying around I loped off the ends so it would fit between the frame rails

Thanks, can never seem to get a pre made one to sit right where you need/want it, I may build a bumper that incorporates it and wraps around under the bedsides for a little more protection.

Rust free cab on its way up from Arizona, gotta decide if I want to chop the roof off or use the whole cab, it’s a 2wd cab so I would need to use my 4x4 transmission tunnel, or I could just lop the roof off and use it on my cab….might be one of those jobs that’s sounds easy until you try it and then all the window openings end up off a smidge and the glass doesn’t fit….thoughts?

Probably best to swap the whole cab then you know it’s rust free. I was thinking about your original cab with the rust like that who knows how far that rust goes down the pillars.

Do the cab swap...I helped my buddy do his club cab, had to redo the tranny tunnel, but that was easy.

Got some work done on the truck tonight:

New front spring plates, 5/8 ubolts and 2 degree shims to fix the pinion angle from ORD, new shocks all around

New u bolts are beefy compared to the stock 9/16 ones

I won my bid on eBay for a removable transmission tunnel from a 70s truck so that should make the trans tunnel a breeze in the 2wd cab I have coming. Next us is new front shackle mounts from @Hogback Fabrication

Bump, did your cab show up?
Cab is coming sometime in March, not sure the exact date yet….the only thing I’ve done since I lasted posted was finally get the winch out of the living room and onto the truck….I did chop a clean rust free roof off of truck in the local yard just in case I need one in the future or someone else does, didn’t want to see it get crushed 45D4561A-6B78-467E-BBBF-C2884650E759.jpeg
