96 s10 blazer, getting a 5.3L

Little more tube work. MNorby came up last weekend and helped me knock out the front hoop and a pillars. Then I bent up the front fender bar and the hoop connecting the stinger to it last night. I also added a small tube from the radiator support to the fender bar. I think I will also add another one from lower on the a pillar and tie into the fender one somewhere. Getting there...

Found a deal I couldn't turn down.Going from 36" irocks to 39.5". Not the tires I realllly wanted, but they fit my wheels, are new and a great price. :waytogo: At 0psi in the tire and 30psi in the inner air lock they are 3 1/8" taller. So a solid 1.5" more of ground clearance.

Links!!!!:woot::woot: Now waiting on some shock bolts that should be here this week and get some hoops made and start the cycling. Here is where the new 39.5's will sit. I am pretty sure I made the 0* approach angle I was after. You can see the little black tow hook right above the front side of the tire.

I am digging approach angle!:waytogo:

Wow you aren't going to know what to do with that kind of approach:thumb::thumb: angle are ya
No, not at all:dunno:! Drive straight up walls?! It was one of my main goals to have a 0* approach even with my 36's. It would have been close but not quite with them, but we made it with these. :woot:

Nothing real pic worthy. I have been gone since the 16th also and just got back to work yesterday. I will get some stuff knocked out this weekend. BB is coming up fast

Been awhile. Me and the wife went on a cruise with my old Air Force roommate. Was a great time, just didn't help with getting any work done. I did get the front tube work done, just need to clean it up some and paint. I also finished building the tranny cross member/lower link mount. It is 2x6" 1/4 wall. I had to notch out a piece for the tranny, and also a wedge for the driveline. Then plated back in with 3/16". I added some gussets to the back of the link mounts and added the weld on washers from ruff stuff. It is held in with 4 1/2" bolts from under the frame, 2 more holding it tight against the t case cross member and of coarse the tranny mount bolts themselves. Hopefully it holds up. Start shock hoops tonight.

Got the pass side mocked up tonight. Any concerns? I think I wil still add a gusset to the front. Seems like a lot of open space.

Besides the exo cage is there anything connecting the nose to the firewall, that would be my only concern it would seem from the picture that the frame is supporting alot.

First I plated in the old frame when I did the sas with some 1/4". The old frame is notched out and the new one is slide into the old one and welded. Then I made 6 plates/gussets (3/16") that tie the two together along with tying the link mount in with it. I also plated the new frame on where I bent it, on top, bottom and inside the bend with 3/16". Then I put a tube between the two rails right in front of the oil pan. Also branched off of that to underneath the engine mounts. I also tied the exo in on the front corner into the radiator support instead of just on the top middle of the stinger. Also the tranny mount sits on the original frame not the new one. So really the only weight is the engine itself and then the force of the struts. If you have any ideas on where else to tie into that would be great. Thanks for the input.

edit- It is still on body mounts so the body and cage are not tied together anywhere. I used some rubber bushings/things on the front for the hood and fenders so they have some flex still.

Ok in the picture there is a shinny circle that looks like it is on a tube that is welded to the frame. If that is a tube can the new down tube be connected to it?

Not that the frame is going to do this but my only concern is that the frame buckles between that and the new down tube.

If it didn't have the exo I would think it would but with the box of the exo if it does that is going to be the least of your issues

There is a tube (13/4"x .120 dom) coming out of the box section of frame that makes up the stinger. You can see the other shiny circles on the side of the box section, that is where I spot welded the tube into the box section, along with welding on the end. Also a piece of the 2x3 underneath to make a gusset. I slide/hammered the tube around 14" or 16" into the box section, then wedged a piece of 1x1 squared tubing underneath it about 6" long. So the tube was slide in, spot welded, 1x1" wedged underneath, then a pie shaped piece of 2x3" used as a gusset. You make a good point, hopefully I covered everything.

Got drivers side shock mocked up and started checking things out. Will get the cross brace done tonight hopefully.
