96 s10 blazer, getting a 5.3L

Here is the bearing and the crank. Steve (blue yota) hooked me up with a complete sub. Figured the hood would make a great place to strip the new motor down. We put my heads, intake and cam on it and slapped it in last night. Just need to finish hooking everything up and put the t case back in. Hopefully be in Wy this weekend trying her out. :woot:

I'm sure that is where most engine builders do their best work, on the hood of a parts suburban.

Here is how the shift linkage turned out. I used 3/8 heims, and all thread. Then sleeved the all thread with schedule 80 pipe. I was going to put a tack weld on the pipe at teh jam nuts. Figured that might be a pain to get off, so I just put a dab of rtv to keep them from doing any rattling.

Scott, where did you get all the parts for your doubler shifter linkage?

The heims came from a local race shop. Nothing fancy just 3/8 heims, all right hand thread, female. Then a piece of all thread, grade 5. Took it over to the steel yard and found a piece of sch 80 that it fit into easily. They rest is just grade 8 and 5 bolts and nylock nuts. I used grade 8 for some of the longer ones. I can take some more pics if you need me too of something.

Here is the link for the shifter.

how are the ori struts treating ?

love this thing!

Thanks! It is fun watching your vids from az. The ones of the gf jumping the buggy the other day where great. I want to come wheel down there someday, looks like some good trails.
I am super happy with ori's. Just need to do the rear now. I only have 150psi in the lower chambers, so they are probably a little soft. I found if I let off the gas then hammer it going through the corners it rails nicely. Back of the gas in the corner it gets a little squirrelly. Soft in the rocks though. I am hitting my bump stops too. Might bump it up to 160 when it gets warm. I want to play with the rebound screw too. Just haven't yet. Are you still running yours on anything?

Still running them on the 07 but i dont drive that much at all but liked them, i did have one issue when the lower rebound screw vibrated/came out.

This caused me to loose the oil and thus the bumpstop, i didnt catch it and when i landed from a jump it sheered the mounting bolt and the ori shaft was damaged from being inbetween my truss and radius arm and flopping around.

That said, these were for the buggy and a set for the rear will be on the way soon. Still a fan!

Az wheeling, and more so the people here rock! Get down here!

Went out the other weekend, front end is working great. More importantly my little man(3yr old) "drove his first obstacle. He was pretty stoked, so was I. Also he had his sister and 2 other little girls in the back seat cheering him on. Why he decided to wear his helmet I'm not sure, but figured it couldn't hurt. Usually we don't wear them in the truck.

This looks like your entire front end had been cut off....like a train went through or something....weird.

:dunno: Does look funny.
Matt was sitting in his truck when he took the pic, so made for a funny angle. There is a big hole there too, swallowed my 40" pretty good.

Your rig is looking awesome, you can tell you got a lot of work into it.

If you noticed in the last pictures I am missing my side mirror after breaking it off again, and caught myself looking for it often. So i finally got around to putting on the buggy style ones. Mnorby bent the 1" hoops for me and I made the plate/bracket deal on the pass side. I can't put the pass side up high like the drivers or else the driver can't see it. They have to go up high on the cage so the door can still open. Visibility seems pretty good sitting in the shop. Also the pass side folds flat against the window so it sticks out less than the exo. Should work pretty good.

So i bashed the pass door in a few months ago and the window wouldn't go down due to the saftey bar in the way. My wife wanted a window for our memorial day trip, and it is $150 for a new door. So i cut them down to half doors. I haven't finished the inside yet, waiting on some plastic sheeting from graingers still. Wheeled over the weekend and love them though. Also got measured for some snap on windows. They are $150 for the pair with a bag for each one.

I finished up the inner door panels the wife wanted back on. She wanted a bigger armrest and her door pocket back. Also put some bungee cord on the ceiling to store the soft windows when not snapped on.

Still loving the ORIs? :deal:

Have you got the pressures figured out now to a point where the truck is stable at all times, or do you find yourself wishing for limit straps, sway bars or a suckdown winch?

I'd like to believe the marketing and think that none of the normal "extras" are required with ORIs...but somehow I don't think ANY coilover/strut is that magical.

I am still really liking the ori's. I changed my lower pressure to 160 psi, been running 150psi. What a difference, it made the ride harsh at speed, 45 or so over the baja track, no jumping though. I also changed the rebound screw all the way from one end to the other. Stuck like glue in the corners at one end and the other I was driving the holy crap out of it. When I had the pressure at 150 I could mash the gas and just drive through corners and it would set the shocks and rail through the corner. If I let off the gas it would get a little squirrely but nothing to bad. I dont feel the need for a sway bar in my truck, maybe if you plan on hitting 80 in rough terrian, but not for my 50 to 60mph speeds. I do run some small poly bump stops that make contact 1/4" before the ori's hit their bump. People that ride can't tell if I'm on the bumps or not when riding with me. But the poly bumps are hitting when the speed goes up and it gets a little rough. A buddy that has ridden dirk bikes for his whole life and four wheeled off and on for years rode with me and flinched at a few bumps coming up. Then was amazed at the smoothness when we hit them. Said can't even feel them, did we hit the bump stops or not? Only one problem for me, I don't have them on the the rear too. Soon though.

So over memorial day we headed down to South Dakota. Other than the mud the trip was great. On the way my tires finally grew up and are now 42" iroks on h1's, with flat centers and rock rings. Tires helped out a lot, I gained right at 1" at the diff at the same air pressure. I lost some stance though, in front I'm 82 1/2" outside of tires, before I believe I was 88 1/2", maybe only 86 1/2". I measured the rear and was only 1" narrower so I ordered up some 1/2" wheel spacers fro now. I also had to cut the overloads off and hose clamp the leafs down in SD because of them rubbing the tires when getting just a bit our of alignment. So the question is, does anybody have a good all around number for width? I was very stable for my height before and don't want to lose that, but am I going to notice losing 6" of width? I would like to find another set of H1's and either go pressed centers, or backspace the flat center and use some gussets to get the desired back spacing. I really don't want to run spacers on all 4. Just seems like more to break. Maybe I'm just scared though. :dunno:
