'96 Vortech swap into a '79...got the donor

I looked around for a while, and despite the rare 205 that came behind the 92 Suburban / Crewcabs with 4l80e transmissions, there is no way you can keep the 205 t-case and get your VSS signal as well.

I personally made the switch to an 89 NP241, and was planning on changing the speedo drive out with an electric drive once I was good and ready.

yeh called jimsperformance and well ill just elimante it all together. for $450 he will reprogram the computer and rework the harness. a grand total of 4 wires to hook up

If it isn't too much trouble, see if he can re-program it to accept a 2000 pulse per mile signal like the old TBI ECMs used. You can very easily and cheaply set one up in the 80+ trucks with the orange ringed speedometers using factory parts :)

hey one other thing i did on my engine was, i threw out the stock air intake and put in a k&n air intake for a '96 chevy pickup. i couldn't find a descent way to install the stock air box because it is so big and bulky, so i modified the k&n air intake to fit my blazer. another option if you want to be a real bad ass is to just go all the way and run a snorkel, i was just too lazy to fab one up.
another thing is you might possibly want to use your old exhaust manifolds on the vortec to make your existing exhaust pipes bolt right up.

also with sending this out ot jims anyone have suggestions on what i should get rid of? i was thinking egr, o2 sensors, vss,? anyone think of anything else.

did jims mention how it will effect the overall operation of the efi system by eliminating all those components?

anyone here deal with jims performance? im thinking about having him reprogam my '96 vortec computer and harness for in my '79 chevy.

thought, opinions on jims?

im gonna call him first of the week. but from what i understand is he programs the computer to not even miss them.

yeah, i think the o2 sensors are what help the computer decide how lean or rich to run the fuel mixture. with them removed from the computer i am just wondering how the performance of the engine will be affected. removing the egr and vss raelly won't affect anything, i was just wondering about the o2 sensors.

different kinda swap, but my buddy has 91 sub...4l80e went bad...so he also has an 85 sm465/np208?....any way...he took the tranny out...swapped in sm465...and used the 91 np241, but he left everything that plugs to trans unplugged...gathered it up in a bundle and taped it up..got it fairly water resistant, hes never had a problem other than a temp sensor went bad and was flooding it...other than that seems to run fine w/ nothing pluged into tranny

so i emailed the guy with the truck im getting. he said its got everyhting in it but the tranny, xcasea nd dafts and rear. and bed from what i gather. so i am currently running my tankin bed at the front. could i do this with the new tank to account for my fuel pump?

i think its probably worth a shot, its kind of a matter of getting the filler neck to line up. in the blazer it was a whole different story, but in your case it sounds very possible. that would be the cheapest and most reliable solution to pump fuel to the engine.

yeh this is fora school project so cheap is nice. but in theory what kind of fuel cell would i need?

as for a fuel cell, i wouldn't know, i've never messed with one, i'm sure theres a lot of nice options out there. maybe someone else on here knows the hot setup for running a fuel cell.
