97 sas'sy Sierra/ 80 Cheep 10: tales of a phat block

The wife said to paint the backside of the Cards so she could use them still. I don’t think that’s a viable option after I mangled them in around the wheel weights :rotfl:

1 deck allowed a guy to do 2 wheelies at a time fwiw.

Well I built up 2 driveshafts over the last week. Said screw it and did the cv delete mod last night. I suspect mine was worn a bit.

I’ve got a single cardan joint shaft on the 97 that came off the 83. I prefer them if a guy can get away with it.

Upon further testing I have figured out that the driveshaft was worn the flock out and the tcase.

Ordered up a standard gear rebuild kit off the fleabay this mornin already. Seems like the easiest alternative vs swapping in a chain drive tcase.

Angle doesn’t seem to be to bad, had to do some heavy grinding on the tcase end.

Did you just cut down a CV to use with the single u-joint? I want to do that on mine. I don't need the expense and stuff of a CV just to have slightly less vibration on the highway in four wheel drive.

That’s what I did on this shaft.

The other one on my 97 came off an early obs truck that had the right flange for tcase. I ran it for quite a few years on my k20 and it worked mint.

Well I’ve been real busy at work lately, amongst other things. Ebay’d rebuild kit for a good deal, well a month later it finally showed up Monday. They lost it during shipping, that delayed it another 3 weeks.

Pulled the tcase Sunday, used a little scissor table I scored from my boss to lower it out of the truck. Had to slide it off to get it out from under. But hell, it made quick work none the less.

Tore the case down last night. Noticed a good bit of play on the idler shaft bearings. The article I used to tear it down said it should have 4 shims, as well as parts breakdowns show 4 shims. Mine only has 2.

As im winding down my night I notice the rebuild kit seems odd. Turns out it’s missing the idler shaft bearings as well as a couple others. Go figure :doah:

Gonna try get some money back from eBay I guess. Prob will end up ordering the missing bearings and keep on keepin on.

I quit using eBay after every order was messed up. Hopefully you get it figured out.

I’ve never had an issue. Although I haven’t bought much in recent years. Considering I paid $110 shipped for the kit vs the $220 or so for one from rock auto I figured I midas well give it a go.

Was burping a coolant system today, figured I’d slap the new lights in orangey.

Ordered up some pigtail adapters off eBay for $5, lights were free off book face back in the spring. I figure that’s an alright deal.

Never realized the old headlights were halogens when I swapped the truck to round eye. Seals are shot on both as well as the reflector. I think I’ll redo em and swap them into the 77 most likely. Kind of a neat score I thought eh.
