97 sas'sy Sierra/ 80 Cheep 10: tales of a phat block

We took it out for a shaker saturday night, seems to work really good. Ive never run a front locker so was quite impressed with how it performs.

We also re wired my fog lights in, they had a short. Still a lot of things left to do before its trail ready but its one step closer.

Man I can't believe there was that much sand in there like that. I get paranoid every time I rund through a mud hole that my seals are going to fail like that and let water and mud in and destroy everything. It's happened once before.

As far as the outer lock rings on the Warn hubs, some guys on this forum say they don't even install them anymore because they're so aggravating to take back off. They claim that the rings have no use - only the snap ring that goes in the groove on the end of the shaft is neccessary. I don't know how true this is. I always use those outer rings myself. :dunno:

Ya i knew the axle seals were leakin when I got it, so they have probably been packed fulla sand for a few years.

Well not much of a update, been busy with the car, and recent axle swap on the blazer.

As for the ton, I popped the gas tank off a couple weeks back. The straps were rotted, so we changed those, attemped to fix a broken sending unit with no luck. So still no functioning gas gauge. However we cut a hole in the deck, and mounted the filler properly. So no longer do I have to hold the gas nozzle when filling up to keep fuel from running out.

I also traded a case of beer for a driveshaft for the tie rod that links the front tires together as the "long" side of mine is shot.

Hoping the weather this weekend co-operates with me and I can get some work done on it.

That is all.

Jesse

very nice, i love k20's. I really hate changing those axle seals...

Well, messed around with it a bit today. Got the new tie rod piece in, no more death wobble at about 35mph I noticed as well.

Built a lil shield to hopefully keep water from splashing up on the fan, hope it works.

Also tweaked the timing and carb some more, seems to idle much smoother now and much more responsive. Also got rid of the slight ping it had under easy acceleration.

Than I rebuilt the diff cover, steering stabilizer, and air cleaner assembly.....Ill let the pic's do the talking on that one:D

Started modifying a free inspection plate to work on it, currently having issues with it contacting the crank. Guess Ill hopefully be able to work it out tomorrow.

Hopefully have a few pics up tom. as well.

Well it was kind of a crappy day today weather wise. Attempted to make the new inspection plate work, but it was to nice to chop up. So we modified the old one, which wasnt the right one to begin with. I lil trimming/hammering eliminated it from rubbing on the crank.

Magic......

Thats a what I traded the driveshaft for. The rod was bent, and the long side end was worn out. Buddy went to highsteer and had his left over.

Well picked up new front calipers, rotors for the disc swap, rear pinion bearings/seal for it.

The bearings have a bit of play, also noticed the seal was leaking a bit so figure I might as well get it done. Couldnt believe the price difference on bearings for a 14 bolt compared to the 10 bolt i just did in the blazer.

Have a couple days off next week, so Im hoping I can get home and get it done.

I have a set of calipers/ like new brake pads off a suburban I stripped in april for the disc brake swap. Hoping they will work out, knowing my luck they wont:haha:

Well got the 14 bolt disc'd, they seem to work much better than the non functioning drums/shoes it had on there. Also ended up only needing to put a pinion seal in it, the bearings were still tight. It appears the play I felt was more or less just u joint play.

Went to put the new front calipers on, turns out the banjo bolts were a different size than the ones it has on it. We did however get the old calipers opened up again with a big C clamp and using the old brake pad to press it back.

Also mounted a reverse light, got a set of flush mount LED tail lights as well. They wouldnt fit his car hauler, so we swapped my LED lights which fit.

Finally had a old Kenwood CD deck out of the suburban I stripped, so tossed it in and glad to have a functioning radio now.

Not sure if i mentioned it, but it has a factory tach that is non operational. Think I might start looking into how to hook it up b/c of the diesel it had.

Had a CK5 decal kicking around and figured id stick her on the window.

A few of us are going wheeling tonight, kind of pumped to try it out and see what it will do.
