97 sas'sy Sierra/ 80 Cheep 10: tales of a phat block

Yeah. What he said. Let us know about that Performer intake. I thought about getting one of those the other day when I swapped that engine but I was short on funds and didn't know how much of a difference it would make. Of course I'm running a stock engine though.

Pickin up that intake in the morning.

Also snagging a set of msd super conducter 8.5 mm wires for cheep as well.

Decided to pass on that old school L79 cam.

Prob will just spend a little extra and put the smallest comp 4x4 flat tappet cam in. Pn#12-231-2

It's the same one I put in my K20 fwiw.

So you're making a half ton version of your other truck then? :haha: I suppose a flat bead is next. Hey if it works... :waytogo:

Haha, just putting the tried and true in :haha:

I'd also rather be under cammed anyways. With the smaller cubes it should be more noticeable, so the interweb tells me :haha:

Yeah I'm thinking it will do better off road (especially at low RPM) with a stock(ish) cam. Although from what I've seen on this thread, you don't do low RPM when you're going off road. :haha:

From what I've seen, engines with crazy cams don't do well at near idle speeds when you try to get on the gas just a little. They seem to want to stall out.

What are you doing for the heads? You may have already said.

Can't remember the casting number on em, but they aren't the 416 or 305 HO heads. I plan on gasket matching them. Maybe attempt to clean up the combustion chamber. Depends how adventurous I feel.

Deans got a extra set he said he would toss in. Maybe I'll attempt it on those first :haha:

And yes, a guy does have to pin it win it

That cam I want is good from idle to 4600 which is really all a guy would get out of those heads without alot of extra work IMO.

Well after a 600 + mile journey I'm home with the 305 rat or mini mouse dubbed by some :haha:

Got it on the stand, ran the numbers. Looks like its a 88-94 block with 80-86 heads. Kind of excited to pop the intake and see if she's got a roller cam. Last tbi 305 I stripped did. But being this must have been tossed together we will see I reckon :haha:
