Too much and beer are two phrases that should never be in the same sentence

Too much beer?

Notice this is one instance of "too much" and "beer" used in the same sentence correctly (in the form of a question).

Got up a lil early before work and blew her down to short block status.

Timing chain wasn't to loose, front cam bearing shows some decent wear. I suspect it should be fine for what I'm gonna do with it. Cam seems to fit good/spin free fwiw. Bit of carbon build up on the cylinder walls, but hardly any wear from what it appears.

First newer style sbc I've torn down that isn't drilled for roller cams as well.

Ordered a rv cam as well. 204/214 duration@50 and 420/443 lift. Should be good for this motor.

Early TBI motors are a crap shoot whether you get a roller ready block or not.

Well ended up tearing the pan off it, forgot how much fun a 1 piece pan gasket is to get the timing cover on. Got all the sealing surfaces cleaned up on the Block. Cleaned the sludge outta the pan.

Wasn't gonna paint this thing......but some Alberta focker wanted me to so......... :haha:

Was home for a day this weekend, haven't ran the k20 for couple months. So figured I'd take the new dog for a rip.

Engine looks nice.

Why couldn't you convert over to a tow-piece gasket setup while you had the pan off?

Still could. But I'll just re use the pan gasket, still in good shape.

My biggest dilemma is Finding the right head gasket for it. 305s ran a .02 thick steel shim. Nobody makes one from I found. I have found a mr gasket one with the right bore size that is .028 compressed.

So that would be why I didn't just buy a gasket set for it. Also I had a bunch sitting around the shop as well fwiw.

I wonder if it has to be the steel gaskets. And how much would it affect the compression ratio to use .028 instead of .020?

 Questions...

Well I could run a .04 replacement, but it wouldn't be right.

My buddy said to grease the old ones and slap her together, guess that's how his old man did it logging in the bush back in the day.

:haha: I don't know if I would trust that. It may work and it may not. Sounds like a recipe for a blown gasket if you ask me, but you didn't ask me. :haha: What's the worst it could do? Start smoking like a freight train until you get back home? You could just avoid any high RPM driving and hope for the best. Wait a minute - I've watched your videos. Nevermind. :D

Haha yeah guess it used to work.

Some would say I have a heavy foot :haha:

The way that motor has been maintained over the years I can`t believe there was any sludge in the pan!!

Pics or it didn`t happen! :haha:

Never mind....I seen the pic`s! :doah:
