97 sas'sy Sierra/ 80 Cheep 10: tales of a phat block

The top caliper bolt doesn't have the room to slid in now, the spring perch width is About 3" wider than the squarebody stuff. Cutting it down like I did gives a guy just enough room to get it out without much hassle.

.

Mine has a similar issue. I have a shock mount welded real close to the upper pin. If it gives me problems some day I figure I can just unbolt the Ruff Stuff caliper bracket and rotate the whole thing in order to get the pin out.

I was gonna say I think I'd unbolt the disc brackets and rotate the whole assembly enough to be able to insert or remove the caliper pin. You could still do that, especially since I don't think it will pass any inspection the way you currently have it.

It can't be done with the ORD brackets. There isn't enough room to get a box end wrench between the bolt and rotor right now.....

The odds of them seeing it's current state are pretty slim unless they take the tires off. If it comes to that I'll drop the u bolts and put a normal pin in.

Hopefully I don't kill any nuns in the mean time

Trimmed up my old inner fender shields off the k20 and screwed em on, got the chin spoiler trimmed and on too. Looks almost like it's never been touched now

Drove it to work today, looks like im gonna have to trim a tad more off the bumper for tire clearance.

Put a couple hundred miles on, pinion bearings started makin unhappy sounds. Way she goes I guess.

Took old orange on a 350 mile road trip this weekend. No problems, oil pressure gauge decided to have a mind of its own. Works half the time

Cool man! Are you going to be hauling it on that bed the whole time? Or is it going in the bed of Sassy?

yeah this ones

Bed of the 97.

Figured I have a truck trailer doing nothing, perfect for moving this thing around till I get it fixed up.

Guess I scored a 83 scamper 8' truck camper from my manager at work, he just wants it gone. Prob just gonna steal the jacks off it and sel/scrap the rest.

Well got motivated, got new pinion bearings in. Gear pattern looks a little funky, pinion support was pretty chewed up. Bearing races were a little pitted fwiw. Had a guy at work make me a big
Fock off wrench to hold the yoke. Worked good for the Crush sleeve.

Drove it today, it still has some odd noise at low speeds. Assuming gears have some funny wear after 40 years of abuse. Just gonna drive it for now, maybe try and find a set of gears some where.

Sold my topper as well. Looks a little different meow :woot:

Put on some miles this weekend. Did some light wheeling.
Picked up that truck camper today, it is way heavier than the other one I have. Tag on it says 1300lbs. It'll be going to the inlaws cabin to be used as a guest cabin.

Not sure if anyone will catch the significance to the name on the cooler.....but if you do lemme know:haha:

Been busy fixing junk, seems like everything I own is broken in some shape or form.

Decided on front belly mounts for the truck camper. Scabbed out this rig today. The pipe is pinned in, the mount is tucked up outta the way.

Will have to finish weld at work Monday and add some gussets.

I like these more than the idea of stake pocket tie downs for fwiw.

Winding down my couple weeks of holidays. Toured through the Rockies for most of it. By the time I get home I'll prob have put on 3000 miles. I've always said I'd drive this truck anywhere, after this trip it confirms that statement. Never missed a beat, mileage wasn't all bad. Only lost a rear hub cap in the first hundred miles. Can't complain about that.
