Morning Fellas,

I've been doing some behind the scene work on the inner fenders on my off time. Trying to fit these big old balloons around the engine cage work you'd think would be fairly strait forward, but none the less, has been one of the most un-fun jobs I've done on the rig. Nothing really to measure off of, has lead to some bigger cuts, some ugly cuts and a good amount of some tack, tack sip. :smirk:

I have the passenger side a lot closer now. Still need to do a bunch of hammer and dolly work on the patches and where I'm reforming the the rear bottom portions to flow with my fender cuts. The drivers side was a little easier as I made some beer box templates and should be able to do a lot less patch work around bad cuts. I still ended up off on my shock mount, but the bars came out a lot better than the drivers side on the initial install. As you can see, on the drivers side, I haven't cut or reformed around the fender cut/ slider mount yet, that's this morning first project. Hopefully she slides back around the slider to engine cage bar much better after.

The plan is to put in a full weekend, Have the inners done, or close too. Fenders and door gaps perfect with all body mounts and shims snugged down, hood installed, need to notch the rear most hood brace to fit around the back engine cage, and lastly do the necessary notch on the front grill so it will fit around my winch mount free spool thingamabob.

I'd love to see her, in all her glory with the front clip back on by Sunday night, with nice panel gaps. That's the plan anyways.

Couple pics and some bonus pics at the end to keep the dream alive. :cool1:

Clearly, the biggest challenge is insuring that you are creating enough “beer box cardboard” for the templating process....

Fitup game is strong. Great details.

Thanks David. I must admit that every second I spend on these inner fenders I keep thinking to myself..."this shouldn't be this hard." lol

Sorry Brian, I added it to the original post. He's on FB and also here is that link again.

Brother, you know with the crew that stops on by during the week here, there is never a shortage of 'Beer Box Template Material....BBTM" laying around this place for a heavy dose of weekend fun. :pimp: :haha:

Yea I thought the same thing cutting mine for the fender well headers but I didn't do as good a job as you. I figure I'm not done trimming them yet and rad machine does nice work they look great!

That does not look like fun.....

Nice work and those emblems are bitchin

So not fun.... about to go on a beer run to calm the nerves. :D

Even knowing from the passenger side cutting to take it in small bites, I pretty much over cut the drivers side here in the last hour. Just so much crap to go around and the further you move it back, the more it shifts one way or another. :mad1:

nice job.. i bet that was annoying.. ;)

Have no fear, the cuss words are still flying out of the 16' hole on the front of the garage. :screwy: :haha:

I always wondered how people trimmed inner wheel wells. Like you said, there is no set place to get a measurement.
My solution is run no inner fender wells.

I've almost been there a couple of times and scraped them, but I think I finally might have them in well enough to where I can really start to work on their appearance instead of fit. :tongue1:

High quality work is a time vampire.

David

True words, Brother.

So, I set out this past weekend to really try and get the inner fenders as close as possible, mount the hood and get my grill back on just to see what the old girl looked like again. Happy to say that I hit all of my goals. I know I still have a lot of work to do on the inners, but they are starting to fit around the bars pretty nice and now flow with the fender cut, that was back 2.5 inches. Crazy amount of hammer and dolly work there. I still need to add some metal back to the inner on the pass side down tube as it's still one of my more ugly cuts, but I did knock out the drivers side already.

Some pics to catch everyone that's not on the book O faces. :D

You may need to chip that slag from yesterday and get rolling

Heading out in a second here. Really want to get the second portion of the fender I was working on yesterday going. I think it going to come out pretty cool for a hacking up the fender to make room for the hidden tube bumper. It will take a little filler love tho. :tongue1: :haha:
