Chevy305 submitted a new Build:

a build of a different variety - SOLD

Well my daily beater '95 S10 **** the bed a few months ago and has been sitting since. My sister bought a new car so she gave me her old one so I could stay mobile. Well now with tax return cash in hand I "might as well" make something out of this S10.

I had been researching how to swap in a V8 since I bought the truck 3 years ago. Well I pulled the trigger and now I have accumulated some parts.

-GM Goodwrench crate engine used with only 10k miles on it and accessories $700
-Camaro T5 transmission, radiator, new clutch, starter $500
-Headers, and other various exhaust parts $95
-2 new tires $120
-Electric fan out of a 90s Thunderbird $20
-motor mounts $73.95
-Summit racing randoms $167

Total: $1676

With some customizing and other inginuity I don't see the budget grand total exceeding $2000

Here's how the truck started as a 1995 Chevy S10 2.2L 5speed reg cab short bed with 213K miles:

The plan is to make this truck able to get out of its own way. This thing should be real fun when I'm done. I have more pictures but forgot the camera, so more to come!

Nice!!! That will be sweet! I will be watching this! Thats not to expensive for a V8 swap.

cool.. love V-8 conversion stuff.. I had a 327 Vega once..

what do you do about front suspension, ride height, brakes, etc?

I won't be touching the exterior, brakes, or suspension. The rear springs were cut by the PO and have sagged, so with a V8 the front will lower some and sit perfectly level. The only thing I might do is heavy duty shocks and track bars in the rear. Otherwise with the exception of the engine/trans the truck will remain factory. I think that makes the definition of a sleeper. :D

Cool man. Are you gonna run EFI somehow or carb it? I agree on the keeping it quiet thing, that would be cool to roll up to somebody in a little truck and then smoke them.

Those are IROC wheels.

Will be very cool. Your definitely gonna wanna find an 8.8 or a 9in to put in the back... That 7.5 is not long for this world.

Orginal plan was an LQ9 but thats an easy $2k more. That will be the future plans when I up the power for a 12 sec 1/4 mile.

They look way better than the factory wheels.

Ok so I have the engine prepped and painted and ready to be stabbed in:

More progress today! Got the engine and transmission pulled and engine bay washed:

VSS and compatability problems

Well the motor is prepped and ready to go in, the transmission on the other hand is giving me trouble...

So since the camaro trans is an 86 its not a world class T5 and has a cable speedometer. Since my 95 truck T5 is a world class and has an electric speedo, combining the two is easier said than done... I used this link as a guide to try swapping tailhousings to keep the stock shifter location:
http://inliners.org/Jack/T5tech.html
http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=280529

Well since the transmissions are different the tailhousing swap wont work because of the 5th gear oil slinger thingy in the tailhousing:

The S10 tailhousing on the left and the camaro tailhousing on the right.

So I figure thats fine I'll just have to cut a new shifter hole and I'd like the shifter closer to me anyway...

So I swap the reluctor ring for the VSS onto the camaro tailshaft (a lot easier said than done). Upon reassembly, I realized that the VSS sensor wont fit into the hole on the tailshaft and because its meant for a speedo gear its offset so that it doesn't point directly at the shaft for gear meshing purposes. Basically VSS is not going to happen with this tailshaft. Either I have to get a camaro world class T5 or an s10 non world class T5 with vss to complete the swap.

I was exploring other options and remembered this as well:

http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Par...ctor-Diff.html

I think I will end up with the diff mounted reluctor ring and just plug the hole on the trans for the speedo.

Updates to come are radiator mounting, and initial engine fitting.

The one thing that I noticed working on this little T5 is how tiny and light duty the parts are. I guess I'm just used to the beef of my SM465 :screwy:
